This year took a little longer for the cold weather to show up, but it is setting up perfectly now! High temp forecast for Garrison for the next week, is today at 21 degrees, and high temp projection for Tuesday going forward is 9 degrees. It will be stacking up in no time!

December 8, 2016 at 7:03 pm #1655672Actually – I have reservations next Thursday for Macs on Mille Lacs and Adrians on LOTW. That’s how bad I need to find ice.
December 8, 2016 at 7:05 pm #1655674You’ll be on ice around here by next Thursday…. not so sure about Mille Lacs or LOTW though….
December 8, 2016 at 7:50 pm #1655679Mac’s just sent me an email – “Sorry not enough ice, probably after Christmas.”

Such as I suspected. There will be fishable ice however by then, perhaps not yet on the main basin but there were already a couple crazies out on Wahkon bay today in portables!
I too am getting pumped, will be bringing my portable up for Christmas and would expect I can get out and get my party started!December 8, 2016 at 8:48 pm #1655691Lake Mallalieu in Hudson, Wi was completely ice covered as of 12/8/16. I consider this near the start of ice lock up in the Twin Cities metro area as it’s one of the first bodies of water to freeze. Last forecast I heard is weekend snow is suppose to stay mainly metro south. Temps were suppose to remain cold for next few weeks. I will be up in McGregor area this weekend (MN Hwy 210) so I’ll see how things are looking up there.
December 8, 2016 at 9:21 pm #1655706Walked on 1.5″ tonight in Dane county, WI. Felt damn good can’t wait to fish this weekend!

That is mighty good to hear !! Maybe I won’t have to drive 8 hrs north after all !!!
December 9, 2016 at 8:16 am #1655745Checked a little pond near me in the south metro at about 1.5″ last night. Should be good to go by tomorrow! Let’s hope the snow is a minimum this weekend.
December 9, 2016 at 8:25 am #1655748small lakes near Tonka are all locked up. Really hoping the snow doesn’t hit us hard this weekend. If we can avoid that Im thinking there will be some walkable ice by sunday

Hoping on decent ice after Xmas here too. Us N. IN and N. IL guys are kinda like unwanted step kids when winter ice is concerned. We get something after everyone else has theirs LOL.
1000 waxies came. Jigs are sorted. Poles and line all checked out. New mantles installed in the Coleman. Our temps are running 10-12 degrees below the month average with single digits forecast some nights and only one day of 32 degrees in the next 2 weeks, so……..I’m hopeful.
Too windy for sure but we have some sheltered lakes around. As long as the Hoosier winter don’t pull a warm up and RAIN (it does that sometimes) Ill be jigging after Xmas.
I asked a buddy who lives outside Bismarck if he is fishing yet. He said “YOU THINK IM GOING OUT IN THIS??” LOL Super cold in his area and forecast to stay.
Waiting to see photos on the forum before I’ll be able to go, but……..I’M READY!
December 9, 2016 at 9:07 am #16557641.5″ of ice on many of the lakes I’ve been scouting. Most locked up last night. Many have good clear ice. Some had ice hang on through the last week of storms so it is milky crap ice.
On a side note. Tons of deer tracks. Seeing piles of does and fawns. Winter herding is in full swing.
