Ok so I’ve got one for everyone so I fish walleye in Vermont and we fish near old railroad tressals every spring and do good but there no were to be found all day long we have three islands by it and two reefs but trolled them all day the other day and never caught one all day! So we went to the tressal around 9pm like always and we start to pick them up but you can fish there all day long and not vetch one during the day but night comes and it’s 9 pm on the nose we get one it’s odd and we jig bottom live bait and crank baits and nothing works all you get is northerns and bass all day long we don’t understand why the only bite at 9pm and we are avid fishermen and I know a lot of retired fishermen that say the same thing there no were during the day but 9pm rolls around and BOOM they show up it’s really odd specially when they should be on the drop offs and the islands!!!! The opening is we’re we fish at night in the spring after they spon and then they disappear on the west side!!!!

Wesley, walleyes are nocturnal by nature. They prefer darkness.

Just because they aren’t biting doesn’t mean they aren’t there. Probably slide out of channel a little deeper and nap. Possible other feeding flats in the area I would check, no matter how shallow, fish could be spooked easily though. Very common for walleye to be in 8-3 feet of water this time of year if there is food.

In deep lakes like that it is common for them to suspend out from the grocery store and go in when they are hungry

Even this early in the year?

What are your water temperatures out on the main lake compared to water coming in from the shallower bay?

The answer to “Where do or did they go” is typically “Close by”

When you have something dialed in such as you describe… It can make it quite fun to try to piece the rest of the puzzle together.

Some lakes/areas etc…Do have bite windows. They vary by time of year, temp, clarity, etc and rarely is it that way all year round….So it is possible to discover they don’t bite during the day (At these given conditions), but i usually consider that an excuse because not all fish act the same. Something is always eating.
Might not be traditionally…But occasionally i have breakfast for supper.

Again…They’re close by. Time to go hunting!

    I’ll pose a question though.
Are you using SI and know how to find fish? Are you seeing fish and not catching them? Or is this a case where you just know your not getting bit and assume they aren’t there?
Tactics require changing often even if the fish haven’t moved anywhere, so that can be a factor too.

Lol o ya I know they are but still you would think they would bite during the day considering the opening night 4 of us got 7 lol it was funny we timed it it was every 30 mins we have been fishing there for atleast 15 years too earlyest has been around 7:30! But the strange thing is come July August you go to the reefs and smash them with spinners and leeches all day the hotter the afternoon the better for noon to 8 and come night there gone lol!! There a odd fish around here in Vermont that’s why I love them lol!!!

The water temp is around 45 out on the west side and the bay is 56 degrees if not warmer check the other day in the boat!

No I don’t have side image 😕 I’m going to upgrade soon tho! There’s fish there you can see them on our helix 5 but it gets hit hard during the day by bass guys and it’s the only way to get to the inland sea so a lot of boat traffic! I know there eating well they have a bunch of fat on them which was surprising and we run deep divers reef runners husky jerks cant run jigs or rippin raps cause there was a turn table there years ago and the cables are still there and I’ve lost a few dollars lol! The bay that’s on the west side is super rocky and has boulders in it would the linger in there too if there was bait I know there empty of spon!!!

What is the water clarity in the lake? If it is a clear type of lake you may need to fish way away from the boat. Trolling use boards for instance or double the amount of line out you normally use. Are you running a gas engine or using trolling motor? Casting well away from the boat with the boat parked as far off the structure as possible. Just some ideas.
