You all get to tell your kids that the governor has closed all the schools in the state beginning Wednesday.

My opinion won’t matter so I will keep it to myself. wink

What was the reasoning to have the kids go to school Monday and Tuesday before the closure?

There are countless working parts involved to set up online learning beyond just a snow day here or there. Students will need to be shown how to use different online applications, collect textbooks and documents, etc. Many internet providers are announcing free access to student families but will need an avenue to get information and hardware to students. Monday and Tuesday will be needed if schools want to have any type of successful online learning. Keep in-mind that the CDC and WHO are recommending up to 8 weeks of this. I’d be absolutely shocked if students are back to face-to-face learning before Mid April if they were willing to go this far.

One explanation I’ve heard from others that makes sense to me is that this way it isn’t dumped on parents to find childcare immediately, they have a few days to start arranging.

We got a long email from school yesterday as Wednesday is the last day for WI also and they said it was a combination of time for teachers to prep stuff for the kids to do while off and also parents to find alternative care. The daycare we use is awaiting word from the health department if they are going to get shutdown as well, going to really limit options if that happens.

Maybe I should bring him with me to work, can pass it off as educational time as he will be learning a lot of ‘french’ words.

I understand the rationale and yet I don’t. I get it we all really need more time to fully prepare but if people are potentially infected why send them back to school for two days?

That is the state mandate. Our district is canceled immediately, with online and distance learning starting April 1. I’m sure many others will be similar.

    Historic, for sure.

We were notified our school is shut down starting tomorrow. I’m sure there will be many more doing the same. The Wednesday thing is just the deadline. Things could be interesting for awhile

My daughter and both daughter in laws are in the school systems. Two as councilors and one is a teacher. They all say two days isn’t near enough to prepare for what they need to do. Staff will continue going to class rooms and prepare online lessons. My daughter commented she is going to actually earn her salary the next weeks to come. Fortunately for her her daycare is remaining open. Otherwise grandpa would be having to keep watch on his favorite little terrorist who is just a few days from being 2 years old.

Grandpa loves the guy but a few hours at a time is pretty exhausting. Don’t think I’d last the entire day! chased

Yea Wednesday is the mandate, lots will close earlier. Lots of kids have stuff at school they need (snow clothes, meds, etc.) and lots of schools need to pass out work, laptops, etc.

    Really hope it’s only 2 weeks…

Same here. From my understanding of Gov Walz’s announcement was that this two week shutdown is just to prepare to go ahead with online learning. I don’t foresee schools reopening anytime soon.

Frankly, I am still in shock that we’re experiencing something like this. sad

My sons school will be closed starting Monday. He is not happy it is his senor year and he is involved in a lot of things at school. He mostly worried about missing his last year of baseball.

    Nerd alert!

HA! Come to find out it’s because they realized they might need to make up the days in June. In any case they are out this week for spring break so it could be maybe only an additional week, assuming online school can get going that quick.

Spring sports will be very unlikely. I think there’s a chance kids will finish the rest of the school year online. Hope that’s not the case but certainly a possibility.

Ohio, Illinois & California have all closed bars. Ohio has closed restaurants that don’t have drive thru windows. Illinois has closed restaurants.

This is the tip of the iceberg.

Hey parents, you now have to find daycare in 2 days. Good luck. And oh by the way hope your job sticks around……

This is unreal. My family is fortunate we have options, many are not so. I really feel for them.

Be interesting to see if they waive the limits (# of kids) day cares are licensed for.

The issue will be finding space for the kids. My guess is Walz will come out with a program letting the taxpayers pay for daycare of the school age kids.

We got the email Friday around noon that our district is going online until at least the 13th of April. Luckily for parents around here it’s a small community and the either stay at or work from home parents have offered to do child care for those who have to work. Where I work is a different story. Many of the people there had no time to set up child care and are taking emergency vacation.

So instead of contracting the disease at school they’ll just contract it at daycare anyway? Brilliant rotflol

Twin cities hospitals have been on a stiff hiring freeze despite being frequently understaffed. Curious to see how this could make that situation worse than it already was. Influx of patients and more staff that have nowhere to keep their kids while during their scheduled shifts.

Down here you’d think it was a March ice storm with all the closings and total empty coolers and shelves.

I’m sitting on both sides of the fence.

One side I believe people are stupid as they are in total panic of this and thinking this is the end.

But to the point of the post I think the other side is “Frick’in use your head and have common sense!” Wash = total hygiene, distance = back off a bit, If you have any thought of sickness = stay at home” and jeez there are so many more.

Ah crap, even my favorite hooch was empty @ Sam’s Club yesterday!

I see this two ways. It’s very likely one or the other.

#1 This is a massive “boy cries wolf” scenario, blown so far out of proportion that it wreaks of being used for political gain by the side who has zero chance of beating Trump in November…….Dems are already blaming our president. He has to Prepare for the worse in case it comes to fruition, even if it’s found to be a huge waste of resources in the end.

    Or

#2 This is actually going to be way worse than we can imagine because we are not being told a bigger piece of the information. The info we have been given to date does not match up to the tanking of our economy that seems to be fully underway.

In any case. I’m just happy to have survived another great fish fry in the garage. Nobody that came seemed overly concerned about all this so far.

Like said above, why even go the 2 days this week? My kids will be staying home starting today. My boy has a cold already & I don’t see the reason to send them in to “get infected” or spread what they already have.

It’s getting more difficult not to believe that much of the intent here is to disrupt peoples lives as much as possible, instill fear and then tell them who they should blame and be pi$$ed off at for it. In fact it’s becoming more transparent almost everyday.

Fear is powerful. Scared people can be convinced of many things they otherwise would not be. What this should point out to people is how quickly government can take away freedoms and citizen priviledge. People will give up freedoms quickly when they are made to be frightened of something and then are told what to do that will make them feel secure.

You Fox news guys better hope you’re right on this one. Bc if you’re not, politically speaking, your so called “libtards” will look like saviors and you won’t get another president for a long, long time.

Nailed it Thomas Nichols! Like you said take your pick, it’s the libtard Dems or the stupid libtard media.

Least we got our guy, going to martial law with Trump wouldn’t be bad at all

There is another post on this forum that talks about martial law. Most if not all of the Right side of the aisle are against it, though I think that’s mostly because a Democrat did it first. Had a Republican been first all the people on the right would be praising them for taking the hard line that “libtards” as you so love calling them were too weak to do.

People are missing the fact that the governor’s closure was established as a “planning time” for districts to prepare for longer term closures.

If you think schools will be back in session in 2 weeks, I think you’re missing the boat. Although our local district is looking at this in 2 week chunks, they’ve vocally admitted the school year could end with this online learning platform. I personally think schools won’t be reopening until May at the earliest. We haven’t even hit the peak of this thing yet.
