On or about April 9th, even though I was sheltering in place in the boat/camper, I started getting headaches.
Temp was starting to creep up into the 100’s. The only place I had been was to a hardware store and I used my little bottle of hand sanitizer often.

Cold sweats and chills each night. Did the telemed thing with my doctor. They had me come in for testing. I was tested for A and B along with CD-19. My doc said I didn’t need to wait for the test to come back. “You have THE VIRUS”.

I didn’t need to worry about sheltering in place…I wasn’t going anywhere. Both knee joints were (very) uncomfortable. Daytime temp ran around 98.9 then would spike at night for a couple night high of 102.1 but mostly hung around the 101. area. I didn’t eat for 9 days…all fluids.

I’ve had worse flues….and I’ve talked to a number of folks that tested positive and their symptoms are all over the place. One person lost the sense of taste and smell, then had a 3 day headache, then back to normal. I know of 5 people that died and all had other major complications.

BTW I tested negative for cd-19.

I bought a carry out pizza from the Woodshed down the road last Friday. Looked good. Had one piece and popped it all into the fridge. So much for that.

My take away? We can SD as much as we want but unless we are detached completely from others, that sneaky little virus can find you.

Glad you made it through it! So do I understand you correctly that you’re doctor told you he didn’t need test results that he just counted you among the Covid confirmed cases and then you’re test came back negative?

Back in January my wife returned from a work trip to Singapore, her flight home being on the exact day that news emerged from China of a pandemic. A few days after she got home I got the worst cold of my life. Headaches, fever, could barely breathe, etc. This was before confirmed US cases but I have my suspicions that maybe some covid tagged along home and she was asymptomatic. Took me the better part of a month to recover, doctor gave me antiviral meds for what he diagnosed as viral bronchitis two weeks into it and that helped a little. Still took me until well into March to feel 100%. I’m a healthy 29 year old and never had a cold or flu like that. I have no test results showing it was covid but like I said I’m suspicious due to the strange symptoms. Lots of aches, fever, the worst congestion of my life and no upset stomach/ diarrhea.

I might be able to recover from this but I don’t think my 401k ever will

I’m pretty sure only positive test are counted towards the total. Here is what MN says

Data is for cases that were tested and returned positive. Numbers are cumulative since Jan. 20, 2020. All data are preliminary and may change as cases are investigated.

Not all suspected cases of COVID-19 are tested, so this data is not representative of the total number of people in Minnesota who have or had COVID-19.

I didn’t think mine would ever recover from my divorce 5 years ago- it did, and so will yours. My math tells me that at 29, you will have plenty of working years left to financially recover. Just be thankful for the fact that IF it was covid that you had, you made it through!!!

Talk to most financial experts they will all say at your age not to even look at it. Unless you were planning on withdrawing in the coming months you didn’t lose any money, it will recover like every other recession we’ve had.

BK glad you’re recovered. I was wondering why you hadn’t been around much.

    CD-19 = Covid19
Kinda like SD = Social Distancing.

So do I understand you correctly that you’re doctor told you he didn’t need test results that he just counted you among the Covid confirmed cases and then you’re test came back negative?

She told me I had all the symptoms and I really didn’t need the test.
When I asked about the negative test results 5 days later, she said that up to 40% of the test results were wrong.

Didn’t really matter to me what it was.

and a lot of that COVID data is skewed. people are passing with other issues and are listed COVID related. really…….who really truly knows the real numbers.

They’ve done studies you know…60% of the time, it works every time jester

    Glad you’re okay BK.

I got “the flu” in February after a weeklong convention with people from Edmonton to Miami, and Los Angeles to Baltimore….I wasn’t the only one who got it either.

High fever, felt like I got hit by a bus, raspy breathing, in bed for two days, etc. Went in for some Tamiflu on day two (my wife made me lol) and tested negative for influenza.

They said I had “some weird virus…..”

I honestly hope I had it and have some immunity built up now

Have been hearing a few people that have had all the symptoms but tested negative like you did. 40% seems high, but we haven’t been through this before either.

I wonder if you took the antibody test after the fact if it would indicate you actually had Covid??

“They said I had “some weird virus…..””

I was feeling pretty poorly in late February. Low grade fever and a cough I couldn’t stop. Every three minutes. So after several days without sleep, I went in. Same story “Well it’s some virus but not the Flu”. OK, whatever. They gave me codeine cough syrup which is far out, man. And a few days later I was back in action. So who knows.

To be honest – You are only the 3rd person I know of who thought you may have had it – Both you and them tested Negative. So far you are the only person I know who’s know anyone who’s died directly from it ( You said all had other underlying issues ) I keep asking people I know and those I talk with about the virus if they know anyone who’s been confirmed to have it and if they know anyone who was healthy and died from it. So far no one has know anybody ( I guess that’s a good thing ) I guess I’m a little Skeptical of the #’s being given on all of this.

Glad to hear that you are feeling better

About 5% of the people they test in Minnesota come back positive…and they’re mostly just testing the elderly and essential workers. Makes a guy wonder what the other 95% of the people who test negative have.

The CDC updated their website and added 6 new symptoms including headache, chills, lost of taste/smell, etc. They specifically also indicate that a runny nose is NOT a symptom.

I don’t think the positive test number is skewed. They took a test and it is positive. Actually the number that has/had it is skewed really low because of lack of testing. I’m surprised BK could get a test since he wasn’t on his deathbed…he must just be old to get one jester .

very interesting, thanks for sharing BK… the test results are not 100% accurate. My brother in law is an ER doctor in NC and they had a woman last week that checked every box as far as symptoms but they tested her three times and each time came back negative for COVID. The doctors were convinced she had it, so they gave her a fourth test that was administered in the rectum and that test result came back positive. So just be aware that false negatives are happening.

I can vouch for the no taste/smell symptom. My wife tested positive for it and that was one of her symptoms. All things considered, she had a really mild case.
However, before she got sick, we had taken turns staying home with our 2 kids who were sick with fevers for a few days. After consulting Allina Health’s Covid hotline, they told us to assume the kids had it (daycare provider was sick a couple days before my kids were) and gave it to both my wife and I and that I could be asymptomatic. I never had any symptoms so as soon as serology tests become available, I am going to get tested to see if that was in fact the case.

I read this a couple weeks ago so maybe numbers have changed, but explains the testing percent pretty well

In that light, America’s 20 percent positivity rate is disquieting. The U.S. did almost 25 times as many tests on April 15 as on March 15, yet both the daily positive rate and the overall positive rate went up in that month. If the U.S. were a jar of 330 million jelly beans, then over the course of the outbreak, the health-care system has reached in with a bigger and bigger scoop. But every day, 20 percent of the beans it pulls out are positive for COVID-19. If the outbreak were indeed under control, then we would expect more testing—that is, a larger scoop—to yield a smaller and smaller proportion of positives. So far, that hasn’t happened.

The test-positivity rate, then, is a decent (if unusual) proxy for the severity of an outbreak in an area. And it shows clearly that the U.S. still lags far behind other countries in the course of fighting its outbreak. South Korea—which discovered its first coronavirus case on the same day as the U.S.—has tested more than half a million people, or about 1 percent of its population, and discovered about 10,500 cases. The U.S. has now tested 3.2 million people, which is also about 1 percent of its population, but it has found more than 630,000 cases. So while the U.S. has a 20 percent positivity rate, South Korea’s is only about 2 percent—a full order of magnitude smaller.

    Positive tests

Seems like they wasted a lot of tests (which are in short order anyway) to confirm something they already knew?
