Well how bad is the ice now?

The lake I have been on got really big holes where they were drilled before. It should firm up fast with the temps. Did any lakes break back open? Picks float suit and chisel to be safe.

The lakes I live by look better then they did. But we didn’t get much But rain and some wind. Which was good for the lakes to have a chance to freeze up real good now

I think the rain helped a lot on some lakes. For those lakes that had some snow cover over a small amount of ice, the rain should have helped melt some of the snow cover and now allow those lakes to freeze better without so much snow providing insulation.

Yup, all the smaller lakes I’ve driven by look like they will be very nice in short order. Wind chill will help deep freeze the bare ice.

Should be great in a couple days. I’d say that was the best weather event we could’ve asked for after we got dumped on. Basically a reset.

On Mille Lacs, I saw open water from about midway up the west side to the Wealthwood access when I drove up to Red Door this morning. Only made it as far as Hunter’s this afternoon (go figure) but the ice was in tack. The south side is still locked up as well.

Was on Hutchinson area lake last night and ice was constantly 3.5 to 4 inches.

Was out this morning on a south metro lake poking around a smaller lake and there was an easy four inches. These temps are really helping quickly

I have been meaning to check our close metro lake. I was ignoring it because it kept freezing then opening up, then it snowed a ton but the ice held it, then it was super hot, and now? We shall see.

Forming fast. About as perfect conditions to build safe ice quick in the metro right now.

this may not help you guys much but i wa up in itasca county for 10 days. had a consistent 8 inches whereever i fished/speared, and it was good ice. we however were off the lakes wed prior to the rain so i am not sure how that affected the ice, but it sure didnt seem to affect it much tues and we when we where on it when it was so warm. as it never got below freezing tues night.

In the Chisago area on a smaller lake again yesterday and it had 5 inches everywhere I went. Heard reports from Mike’s Bait that most of the bays on the main lakes had 4-5 inches and the ones that had ice blowing into them were more around 7 inches of crappier ice. Not sure on the main parts of the lakes.
