Weekend Walleyes.

Not a bad weekend of chasing walleyes on the ever changing Mississippi river. Went from getting skunked to days in a row last weekend back to finding some nice fish this weekend. The bite wasn’t to fast for us but when we did connect it was some very nice fish. Slow working jigs with plastics and pulling crankbaits was the ticket. Dont think we ever broke the 10# mark for the weekend but caught a half dozen that where over 9. Three 28″ fish and 4 more 27″ers sure gets a guy excited about about fishing. Good number of 18 to 20″ saugers mixed in to.

Good luck to you guys that are getting out. The river seems to be on the rise now with lots of ice and wood flowing yesterday. Who knows where these gals will be next weekend.

Nice, those pigs have to be REAL close to 10#! Would be interested to see if anyone put a scale on 27″, 28″ or 29″ers this time of year.

    Wowzers…Mike, applause

I know I’m missing out big time not fishing the river but it just doesn’t work with where my boat is put away now. sad

Seeing photos like this it makes me wonder about the drive all the way up to Rainy River when these beasts are right down here in our virtual back yard?

BTW, really nice sauger too. waytogo

It was good to meet you out there this weekend, Mike. Tyler and I were in his Crestliner during the afternoon and we chatted for a few minutes.

We had a slow day yesterday with only one nice fish in the mid-twenties. We didn’t see a lot of fish boated but the ones caught all looked really nice. Hoping to get out there a couple of times this week and give it a shot.

Nice walleyes! We had the exact opposite experience weekend over weekend. Last weekend we caught 15-20 walleyes and saugers each day. This weekend we were skunked!

The river sure can change fast this time of year. A couple weeks ago number caught where up but very few big fish. Next weekend should be somewhere between lights out good fishing and a bust.

Nice fish Mike! Hoping to get out this week. My boat is covered in shreds of gunwale foam thanks to new rod holders and a failed shop-vac.

Yep. Nice lamprey. Might be the 1st one Ive seen on a walleye to but Im guessing they are not to selective what type of fish they hook onto.

Mind me asking a depth you were targeting while running those husky jerks? Thinking about giving them a shot from shore one of these afternoons

Even with all Sticker’s whining, I continue to take him. However, maybe he will pipe down a little now that he stuck a nice 28.5″ heffer last night! Where is the weekday Walleye thread )

Thanks for guiding me last night, even though I did most of the guiding while you talked on the phone whistling Fun night on the river even if the bite was slow. That big girl made the trip.

BTW, I hate holding fish sideways, this pics is much better

No certain depth for finding fish right now. Been just about anywhere from the shoreline to 20′.

Nice fish Sticker. Good to see a few still hanging around.

Are you running 3-ways with the husky jerks? Or how are you trolling them?

Are those sizmic shad swim baits?

    Nice report. Well done. waytogo

Juice baits are great so far, just released for sale at the spotsmans show. Put together by a couple of highschool kids from Brainerd area.
