Friday was a stinker with the wind blowing us up stream. We brought in one fish before pulling the plug. We tried fishing sideways and it was just a mess.
Saturday evening started with a bang. Greta pulled in her first sturgeon at 46″ and gave her the time to get acclimated to the fight or the river giants.
Then the wind picked up just as it was on Friday. About 11 pm it died and it was fish on with a 54, 59, 48 and a couple more that I don’t recall the size of.
I don’t understand it but crawlers are still king.
Speaking of King, Brett King was out with his instructor Josh last Friday morning. After landing his 66″ LS I’m thinking Brett will finally give up on those scaly things. Pfft the lamprey on the monster was bigger then most walleye! (I might be stretching that a tad).
People ask me where to fish and what depth. Pick a spot. Seriously. We’ve caught nice fish in 4 to 35′ of water. I think these fish just keep moving around looking for a morsel. If you’re still twiddling your thumbs after a half hour. Move.
We’ve always liked the cooler water from the sturgeon bite to pick up with 55 degrees being the target. We’re at 64 now and I’m not sure how much better it can get!
Good luck peeps!
