Venturing up there a few times over my break from college. Hitting the bluegills in the morning before the sun even rises on Enemy Swim. It took us a few trips to figure the bite out. We would catch a lot of our gills before the sun came out as the sun came out we would only get a few fish every hour. This has to do with light penetration we noticed the gills would come into the bait and swim off right away shutting the windows in the Otter kind of helped but the bite was still slow. Either from getting bored or catching our limit we would to Waubay on the main lake. Setting tip-ups out spreading them out around the shack and running a dead stick and a jigging rod in the shack we produced nice eater walleyes on everything. A lot of the smaller fish would take the tip-ups and most of our eaters were caught on rippin raps or tingler spoons. The dead stick we would take a full minnow and run one hook through its back on a VMC rattle soon and let it sit about a foot off the bottom. We have really learned a lot and have a lot more to learn but we can produce good quality fish. As far as ice conditions as of 12-31-14 on enemy swim and Waubay we were drilling in spots of 14-16 inches of ice. Some snow cover ,but not very much. Pickups pulling wheel houses out was a common site to see. Plenty of people still using tracked wheelers, wheelers and snowmobiles to get out around the lake. A major cold front hit today slowing down the bite but its making more ice! If your going out to Webster,SD I hope this helps. Stay safe and your lines tight!
