Can’t wait to make my delicious turtle soup again this year for the guys at our venison processing party in February. Last year was fantastic. A great fish fry with the fixins & turtle soup.

I got this little fella today and he’s flushing out for a few days now before I butcher, vacuum seal & freeze him.

Can’t wait. Last years turtle was just 12 1/2” without the curvature of the shell. This one is a lot bigger. Prolly 16”-18”. Nom, nom, nom!

That’s awesome. Do you get enough meat off 1 turtle? I’ve had it before and it’s very good.

19 of us guys in New Orleans/bourbon street for a bachelor party… we ate at a place called the tale of two sisters, or something close to that name & they had snapping turtle soup… 16 of the 19 of us got so sick for 2 days after that, that I deemed it being reptile ass flu…

    Sounds like a blast, literally.

I froze 9# of meat total, with the bones still on the front and hind quarters. Surprised me cause I though I remembered getting 8# last year and this turtle was substantially larger.

Anyway, the tough part is done and making the soup in February will be the easy part.

Last years shell has the poly shine in it. They’ll both be hanging in the mancave soon.

Awesome. I love turtle. Recipe please? I normally brown and then slow bake or pressure cook and serve over rice or tater with gravy. Soup would be a nice thing to try. What kind of turtle did you catch, Common Snappers? How did you catch, I know a few ways, but an always curious on different techniques. Enjoy!! Tips on cleaning also appreciated.

I just parboil, pick the meat of the bone by hand & then add it to a modified version of “Lupe’s Potato Soup”. I got that recipe off IDO. Here’s my recipe.
