Can’t believe i started a topic with we have to much snow but dang! My wheelhouse has been off the ice for several weeks now up here Fargo. Yes i know there are many good lakes with paths plowed but still, off the path and your in trouble. So I’m looking to head south to SD and wondering were the snow line is. Meaning how far south does one need to travel to be able to pull a wheelhouse (17′) without to much to much worry. Hoping to take my girl out for a V-Day overnight trip, it will be her second time out and we are hoping for perch. Just hoping for lakes, I can find them if I can get on the water. Ya’ll any help is greatly appreciated!

    Tight Lines!!

Lynn Lake lodge had posted tracked vehicles only. They did not think atv or truck travel is possible except where plowed

Well…mines stuck ON a lake north of Aitkin so it’ll be interesting when I go back up in two weeks to pull it off.

It just won’t stop snowing here in the Duluth area. we have got 18 to 20 inches the last 4 or 5 days. We got the initial dumping of 10 to 12 then it just keeps coming a couple inches at a time.

It has effectively ended the season for me as far as going to any of the local lakes around here with no plowed roads. Heading up to Red this coming weekend as my son in law has his castle up there. After that I might try to go up to Vermillion next week and use the plowed road out of Mckinley but what are you going to do stop and drill some holes in the middle of the road? Only thing you can do is shovel yourself a little dug out off the road or set up right outside of someone’s permanent which I know people just love it when you do that!

Chase you can get around big stone lake if your looking in that area. Arties does a fantastic job of getting anglers out on the lake. Give them a bit of cash and support the bait shop and you’ll get a spot. They do a great job of openening as much plowed roads as they can.

Was on Ottertail today so depending on how large a house you may be ok. Lot of plowed out spots today but they were blowing in some. When you drill a hole you may get a lot of water coming out. We set up a Otter hub drilled 4 holes an it was like a river coming from the holes. We took down the hub an moved 25 feet and fish without. Going back tomorrow to try again. All we got today was Tulliebies.

I live in North East South Dakota and have a 16′ castle. Needless to say itll be staying in the shop unless i find a friend with a plow or want to pay someone to plow me a spot on the lake theyre plowing. Your best bet to fishing in SD without needing a tracked machine or sled would be the Missouri River. Wish I had better news for you but just simply need a plow ahead of the shack. We get 2-3″ of snow every other day and the days its not snowing its blowing 20-30 and white out conditions.

Yes, lots of heavy snow reminds me of bringing my truck on the ice too early. When water comes up, retreat! smash

But not this time of year. Usually, I’ll just move a little unless I’m on a certain piece of structure, then I’ll swim as I wait for fish.

You need to be south of US HWY 14 to have a good shot at not getting stuck on lakes here in SD. Bitter, Big Stone, Waubay, & Poinsett have some plowed paths, some other lakes have decent tracks and wind blown areas where guys can get around ok, but for the most part, Northeastern and eastern SD are tracks only for best mobility right now.
