    Yesterday. West of Bemidji. It isn’t a big lake at a couple hundred acres but the survey looks decent and we checked the ice and found a consistent 3″ everywhere. Joel and I are going to fish it today. I’ll report back. This might be my last chance to get out here in MN for awhile.

    If you look real close you can see the fish schooling under the ice ready to take the bait, happy fishing. Here in Milwaukee, at very least I will be living vicariously through your escapades…we are lucky to get a slippery sidewalk here in the foreseeable future.

    Good luck. We sure aren’t getting on ice here in Iowa any time soon!

    Looks like fun, we got the first walk able ice on leech this morning. Hopefully it does not melt on our end of the lake. Will go fishing this evening for some walleye.

    I am in Western Wisconsin and the lakes I usually fish have about an inch of ice on them, but if the warm weather continues and melts the ice I will get the boat out again and go after panfish. Last year there was 9 inches of ice at this time.

    @James Well????  :coffee:

    We fished the heck out of it and got on some nice gills. Fish activity was VERY lethargic which is something we typically don’t see at first ice. Plastics were a non-starter for us but we could get them to eat a plain jig or a Tungsten Fly Jig with a couple larvae. Our best colors were Pink and White. The lake we fished is not a deep lake with a max depth of 15 feet. We didn’t find any fish shallower than 12′ despite the presence of healthy weed growth up shallow. At the end of the day we iced a nice mess of 8.5 – 10 inch gills… but we really had to work for them. Ice was 3.5 – 4 inches thick. By now I’m sure it is getting a little soft…. doah

    You can always take your boat on lake superior and catch cohos and lakers!

    Thanks! “…getting a little soft…” Boy, it sure is. We still have some, but even the crazies around here are getting a little sketchy about walking on it. Desperately need a freeze to lock up what we have left!

    I haven’t missed a beat in NW Wisconsin. I cut out a couple holes in my pontoon platform, threw up my Eskimo shack on it and anchored it over the crappie hole. whos with me
