Right now I am using the line that came on my tip-ups. it is a nylon line. I am not impressed with it. I have had it snag m hooks when packing up and bouncing around on the walk home. It also is holding water and getting stiff. Is there a advantage to waxed line?

Yes. Get some tip up line. Coated much easier to deal with and sheds the water. Then just run a swivel and leader.

I use the Beaver Dam line, and I prefer 20lb and have some with 30lb. I tried 50lb once but it takes up so much space on the reel and had memory so I saw no benefit and I ditched it. I usually find a spool for $3.99. I stay away from the vinyl coated stuff though, it has so much memory that it causes way more issues than it solves. Probably fine on a rattle reel but not helpful for tip ups.

That tip up line is ok till you get a hook snagged in it, then you’ll play hell trying to get it out and not trust the strength. The individual threads in the braid are very thin.
