I have a friend that swears by the stuff for goose hunting. It is actually heavier than lead.

I’ve been using it for several years now. I use #4 Hevi on geese and #6 Hevi on ducks. To me it is worth every penny. It has been alot of years since we were able to shoot lead, but I can’t tell the difference. Try a box, you’ll be impressed.

Live up to the hype? Without a doubt. Knocks em from the sky like they were hit with a tennis racket. Usually dead as a rock when they hit the water, far less cripples and water swats. I also use 6 for ducks, had a friend who loaded some 7.5 for the opening weekend last year, said they were medicine on teal and woodies.

Worth the money? That’s a little more personal of a question. Even reloaded, theya re almost 1.00 a shell for a 2 3/4 inch.

One thing you don’t need with hevi is a 3.5 inch shell IMO. I use 2.75 inch for ducks, 3 inch for geese.

I think it is worth every penny. I too use # 6 for ducks # 3 for snows and close honkers. If you do switch make sure you pattern your gun as chokes will not be the same. Also shorten up your leads.Watch out for close birds. I have absolutely brutilized big northern mallards with 10 yrd shots

well, i was only planing on using them for snow geese this spring…..and i’ve never heard of anyone having a 10yd shot at them white devils……..but 60yders are common. how far out will these things reach?

either way, i’m definatly going to get some to try out…….i imagine i still have to hit the bird to bring em down though

Been reloading the stuff for 2 years now. Boy o Boy does this stuff rock. Make sure you pattern your gun, before trying it out on geese. Also, makes a geat turkey load. Knock down power for miles.

Well, i brought 2 boxes (20 shells) of Hevi-Shot out with me snow goose hunting last week and after 4 days of exsentisive research, i have come to the conclusion that Hevi-Shot DOES NOT work well enough for my cheap bones ……in my opinion, it does not reach out and touch them high enough to make it worth it FOR ME……those geese should have been droppin from at least 100yds up

……and i know that someone’s gonna throw the “you still have to hit them to bring em down” nonscience out there…….but for a buck and a half a shot i feel they should have some kind of heat seeking mechanism that will search out and destroy the intended target…..NO AIMING REQUIRED

    just my observations

But next year i am gonna buy some….. i usually stick to 3 1/2″ BBs for geese (snows and canadians) and 2 or 3s for ducks. But from what i have read on other forums, guys are whackin the shinit outa geese with HeaviSh!t. but hten agian, i usally dont have a problem dropping them…. heck, i shot a HOLE thru one goose last year with Federal BB’s!!!! you could stick yr forearm thru it!….

You might want to check out a slightly different load for closer shots at Canadas… been hearing wonderful reports on 3″ #1’s believe it or not. Something about the size of the pellet providing greater penetration.

yeah… i think Heavyshot has a natural charicteristic to patter pretty tight. at leasts thats what i hear. i have not shot it so i dont know

but there was a chance that the choke was TOO TIGHT for the shot and created a poor pattern. maybe use modified possibly just my thoughts……..
