It’s ovewr for the state of MN and it’s waterfowl for the year. It is a sad day for what I would call, and sorry to the guys who disagree, another great waterfowl season. Still haven’t met one I haven’t liked, but I bagged birds everytime out and had many enjoyable moments. Duck hunting around the 60 mile area was good to very good and was even great if you got away from the crowds and the goose hunting around Rochester was excellent all year. The final two days of my hunts went out as total opposites. Sat. there was that blistering wind from the south so we figured, lets go south. Took us to a field north of the airport were we ave done well in the past late season dates, seemed like a no-brainer, but ALL the geese flew north, we never saw a bird. Sunday was warm so we tried my field in Oronoco. Birds, birds, birds, the geese flew early and often. The oldman came out for one last hurrah as well and took a double on the first two geese that came in and he picked ’em up and left, gotta love it. If my buddy and I were on the same page, we would have been done in an hour or less, but miscommunication led to many birds looking good and coming in to about 10 yards and then leaving without being bothered. We ended up getting our geese though and it proved to be another awesome day in the field.
As for the split season—-look at Iowa(I know bad example) but they are half as far north/south as we are in MN and even that state has split into North and South hunting zones. Something should/has to be done.
