If your in the right spot it can be unreal, we were out one afternoon 2 years ago in the late season. The geese were just coming like mad out of town right in our direction. It was one of my best hunts. I think there were 12 us , we ended up with 24 geese for that picture. Everytime I am in that area it seems later morning or afternoon is the best shoot. They all go out and feed in the fields for the night. Tim

December 4, 2003 at 10:33 pm #1827from what i’ve experinced the afternoon hunts can be just as good as the morning hunt, but you have to hit it just right. i’ve never had a “great” afternoon hunt, although i have had a few “good” afternoon hunts .
first of all you have to be on the right side of town. as you’re well aware of, those geese don’t always fly out of town the same direction. one day they fly north, the next they fly east. no rhyme or reason, just how they feel on any certian day. the next most improtant thing is to watch the weather. if it’s a nice bluebird day the birds don’t fly until it’s time to pick up the dekes. if it’s windy and nasty they’ll sometimes fly early or all day for that matter. just like duck hunting.
if you do hunt afternoon a feild that’s close to town would probably be the best bet. feilds further out won’t see the numbers until well after shootin time. that’s very frustrating

December 5, 2003 at 6:39 pm #1849The cloudier day the better for evening geese. If it is a bright sunny day the geese won’t make it to the fields until sundown.
