Hopefully with everyone deer hunting this weekend I will have the ducks to myself. With most of our smallest lakes and ponds frozen it should be primeb for big water. Our forecasted winds may break them open tomorrow. Good luck to any other waterfowlers this weekend. The birds should be coming down. I will try to post updates from the blind.

Good Luck! First day of deer season was always well above average when we used to have the permanent blind on big water. The key was always to stay late. Birds are kicked out of every last little haunt as guys leave stands and begin making drives.

I remember sitting in the blind till 2-3 in the afternoon during what started out as a morning hunt with just enough singles/doubles/small bundles passing on the lake that it never got dull. Always seemed to be the most diverse bag of the year as well; early divers, late greenwings, gadwalls, widgeon, mallards, pintails, and always a good supply of canadians.

I was planning on going out in the morning for this very reason, however, too much time focused on bowhunting left my waterfowl equipment in more shambles than can be gathered in one evening. Post pictures
