Lot’s of mallards, but now it is tough to get some other species in. Two weeks ago it was all gads, widgeon and teal, and now the mallards are here full force, but it has been tough for us to get any other birds in to fill the limit. A few teal cruising around still. We don’t hunt where alot of divers use the water, but there are a ton on Lake Onalaska right now. Did get a woodie last weekend, and missed one. They are beautiful now if you can bag one.

    Hey gang:

Boys, there no doubt about it. We had location problems this a.m. but this evening got it right and ended up with 12 of them babies!!! Mostly mallards, but shot a teal, a gadwall, a ringbill along with the rest being mallards. Even with the bluebird weather, ducks were coming in before hours closed!!! Great evening!!! As I speak the lunar eclipse is in progress. What a great moonrise as well. Got to cast this late a.m. and early p.m. Even caught fish on them blessed ringworms!!! Great weekend so far!!! Pics when I get home.

Glad to see you have had excellent action!!! How can I see the TAPE!!! Did you find conditions to be extreme on Sat. a.m. and what type of area did you hunt? We picked a backwaters area north of Fountain City and because of the ice, we should have stuck to the channel.

Yesterday afternoon was great. I had planned to hunt early today and leave midafternoon. But we second guessed the deal, slept in, had a good breakfast, kept the wife company for a little while for some football and went out early this p.m. We had ducks flying, but they liked some else’s setup better than ours today. However we did manage two greenheads, two hens, and two greenwings. We even saw woodies again today. They waited ’til closing to come in tonite. Had I not been chasing the last greenhead of the day, we could have had literally 1000 mallards, teal and who know what else within yards of us. I am going to work real hard to get my yardwork this week and hopefully make it down again next weekend. Only problem is the weather doesn’t look real good again.

I don’t know if this will work, but I have a pic that was from last night. To get this shot with the flash, I think they were about 15′ above my head.

Playing the percentages, ahhh I know better, you knew they were mallards. In fact those were just five of the many hundreds trying to get in on top of us from 4:48 p.m. on. They just happened to get close after I had picked up the coys from my side of the boat. My hunting partner, Randy has been hunting this particular area for ten or so years now and said that he had seen ducks come in like that before but never so many mallards. If we hadn’t knocked down that last greenhead five minutes before close, I bet we literally by sitting still could have had pushing a 1000 ducks pile in on top of us. It was truly spectacular!!! Hopefully this upcoming weather keeps them in the area and brings in some more of those northern ducks.

Flick, are these ducks a major push of northern birds. Randy seems to think the northern northern ducks have yet to come.

Mark, I dont think any major major pushes of northern birds have come through yet from what I’ve seen…Def some new birds around though..Some pretty willing to commit sucide…BUT they know they got a good chance of makin it when yellowdog is blastin at them…
