shoot we only throw about 2 dozen about or maybe 3 dozen at most , I guess i have never hunted behind a huge spread,,, other then geese. How do the big spreads work on the river ,I only hunt the river and i do fine, but i wonder if a huge spread might help on some days > tim

It is true that I am new to this but I have found over the course of the many many days this season on the water a few things that work well.
I’ve got a couple of spots, both 30 acre or so back water lakes upon which I will only throw a couple dozen dekes with no robo. I found that too many in those places scare more ducks off than bring in. In addition, it is too tough picking up 100 dekes when trudging knee deep in mud at the end of the day. Ducks come in naturally to these ponds, the dekes just give them a place to concentrate their landing efforts and bring em in close.
I hunt some big water too, there the robo and 120 dekes seems to work very well.

In the start an middle of the season…I just throw out 6-12 dekes an no robo…..The important part is watchin the ducks an seeing where they want to be….I dont have to call or anything…an they just come cupped up perfect…But when I have clients or now later in the season like this….I usually throw out a couple dozen mallards…couple dozen bills an cans…an a dozen geese or so….an 3-5 robos goin…..Combined with a couple guys goin on the call….An we sound like ONE giant refuge

When I hunted water i used as many as I could get in the boat and still have room for the dog.

Now that I hunt land I use 6 dozen Outlaw Magnum Mallard silouhettes for mallards and three spinners. I like my new Mojo the best. I plan to get a couple more Mojos for next year and toss the other ones.

When I go goosen I use 32 Big Foots. I set them in family groups of 3 to 7.

I’ll combine the silouhettes and a few Big Foots if there are geese in the area or if I need more pulling power.

I lay out in my GooseView and let my dog peek out.

I NEVER mix divers with puddlers…..I put all my puddlers on one section…then my divers 20+ yards away in a formation….For example I hunt a point…Where theres stubble on one side..I throw all the mallards in that….Then on the other side theres open water..thats where all the Can an Bill decoys go….Then the geese right off the point…Looks pretty darn good…

i guess i asked the wrong question. flick, i do what you do. when i said mixing, i meant having both puddlers and divers out at the same time. not mixed together but in the same area. i try to keep them atleast 20 to 30 yards apart. it seems when i have my mallards out, the divers don’t wanna come in but when i remove them, i have success.
