Just thought I would share my experience from this weekend.

Couldn’t hunt Sat but had Sun morning free so I scouted things out Sat evening and found a field with a good # of geese and a handful of ducks. Talked to the land owner and got permission to hunt Sun morning and made sure it was okay to drive out in the field so we were good to go.

I had kind of high hopes since everything fell in to place so well. I was also taking the neighbor boy(15 yrs old) on his first waterfowl hunt ever. We hit the field got everything set up and were waiting for legal shooting. About 5 minutes in to legal shooting we had 3 mallards sneak in on us and only managed 1 of them. Then we waited and waited and waited. The geese never came back, I was really bummed but know that happens.

The main cause for the disappointment though was watching about 5 cars slow way down and eyeball my truck/trailer. One person actually got out and looked in the windows, I was just about to yell when the guy turned and went back to his truck.

We finally called it a day and when I got back to the truck there was a note on the windshield telling me to “Go hunt somewhere else!”. I stopped at the land owners after our hunt and no one was home so I stopped last night. The farmer wasn’t there but his wife was and he was the one that left the note. She was very friendly while we were chatting and when I asked if we had done something wrong to warrant the note…….

Her reply….”Oh no…not at all, we just had a bunch of people call and complain that you were in our field”. The nearest house was 1/3 mile away across a gravel road and were the first people I talked to about hunting there and they were very nice and pointed me to the actual land owners place so probably not them complaining. The next closest place was the land owner himself. We fired a grand total of 3 rounds other than that we were just hanging out.

There were some other guys hunting in a field about 3/4 of a mile away and I am wondering if it was them or that land owner that complained because they didn’t like the competition.

Unfortunately my neighbor’s first experience was kind of tainted by people calling the land owner and giving him a hard time about letting us hunt, is it just me or is that really none of their business?? If he allowed us to hunt on his land that should be his choice shouldn’t it?

Some jackasses are not happy unless they can [censored] on sombodys parade! Last year I had someone come on to my farm and steal my valve stems on opener morning. Being observnt I knew where the tool lived and after the 3 minutes to put new stems in and fill up the tires we were off to there house to find out why they did it.

Bottem line was they had wanted to hunt the pond my truck was parked by(it was totaly on my farm and they tresspassed to get in inthe first place) so when there hunt didnt work out the ruined mine. Sad when I cant even hunt 4th generation land without [censored] neighbors trying to ruin the fun.

I feel your pain man, sux for the youngster. If I could Id get right back out there!

Hmm, yup, Crummy deal… Why do people complicate things for others on purpose??? Too bad it didn’t work out.

Thats why I try hunting where there are few hunters, especially for deer. These days it seems like there is a better chance then not of having some a-hole ruin your day!!

    Hey guys,

Don’t let this stuff get you too down. Know from experience it’s not fun, but if you quit or move, they win.

Biggest complaint the farmer probably got was that you woke somebody up on a Sunday am!!

I’m not hangin up the dekes by any means.

The main point of disappointment was that the neighbor kids first experience waterfowl hunting was tainted by people not minding their own business.

I will try and get him out again on one of the places that I do have permission and have for a while….those places just haven’t been getting used by the birds this year….yet.
