I had a great opportunity to hunt 12 consecutive days; Duck camp #1 in western MN was the worst I’ve ever seen in 12 years. My season in west-central MN has been very poor, and a lot to do with my own darn fault.

Duck camp #2 in Manitoba…now I know where most of these birds are. I’ve never hunted Canada, but this year I made it happen with some good friends. In 10 years the boys have made this trip, this trip was the best ever. So many ducks it is mind blowing. BW Teal are in huge numbers up there and limits to be had, if that tells you how this migration is going. Low water levels, lots of scud and pondweed due to the drought has these birds feasting. They won’t move until the water is solid. Field hunting was not the answer for our trip, so we were enjoying the water hunts to the max. Limits everyday were not an issue. Divers had not arrived in large numbers yet; very low numbers of canvasbacks and scaup. I had one incredible bluebill hunt I had always dreamed of and other than that one lake it was tough to locate bills.

It may finally get pretty chilly in Canada this weekend it sounds, and it should move the teal and other ducks out. Hopefully some birds move in because near home it’s been very tough lately from the reports I’ve received! Pics to follow.
