In WI at what point are birds no longer part of your possession limit, as far as being processed???? we try not to keep any in possession at all just in case you get two stellar days. Last yer my buddy got smart and took his birds to the locker and had jerky made . Does that mean after you drop off the meat they are not in your possession? Or are they because you will possess them again in processed form?

in possession again, but are they then considered prepared? IDK? If considered part of possession limit how would duck numbers be kept track? Confusing…
ap2049Posts: 85September 24, 2012 at 6:51 pm #123801Good question. It also becomes hard to eat enough goose and duck to not be over the limit. What do guys do with all of the meat?
September 24, 2012 at 7:37 pm #123806From what I have been told by the warden in MN is until it is eaten it is in your possession. Processed, cooked, smoke doesn’t matter. Same with fish and all other game. No sure how Wi runs that.
If you are having good luck get to eatin or give them to friends that like duck.

September 25, 2012 at 12:04 am #123816I dont mean to offend anyone by this but, if you need to give away birds to be able to go out and shoot anthor limit, maybe you should take a few days off of hunting and eat some.
I see it all the time with fishing people go out and hammer the fish and then keep giving away fish so they can keep going out and catching their limit. Gotta take care of the resource, if everyone keeps taking everything they can, wont be much left for future generations.September 25, 2012 at 12:43 am #123818That is a good point!!!! I see fisherman abuse the gift often. I seldom keep walleyes myself, however if others in my boat want them they take them. We release a pile of trophy walleye each year. Even my PB I released last year…. The duck limits weren’t an issue until I decided to start my guide business. A high kill count is so important to clients. I am also one not to personally shoot suzies… Also there are many worse alternatives than killing ducks. Last year I also gave duck to a handi cap lady in Alma Boy oh boy did she LOVE it, gave great thanks, very appreciative….. Another elderly man was the same way. Now just today I had a buddy msg me on facebook about duck meat. Wants to make duck for his family, doesn’t have time to hunt, I say perfect!!!!!! I make darn sure it gets eaten or given to the needy, or a person who appreciates it so much I know it will get eaten… I even clean em for them if I need to! As far as my buddy IDK about the meat being out of possession limt if it is processed. Just curious… I have been surprised how many people LOVE duck. It feels good to give it to people like that. As far as the resource, it is strong and our DU memberships help a ton. so does not shooting hens or building wood duck houses in the spring!!!

And thats what keeps us all in the good eye of the public. Im always one for introducing someone into the outdoors or letting someone who doesnt hunt have a taste of the game we all chase.
I would call you local co and see what they have to say. I doubt they can count how many ducks go into a tube of sausage. I am kinda curious as well even tho i would never have that problem.

No offense taken. In fact, I thought about this before my post. It becomes an issue for me, personally, because I am not able to hunt more than 6-8 times a season. But, I always try to spend a 3-4 day weekend up North hunting and during that time, I like to hunt hard. Many times it’s by myself. It becomes difficult to eat that much and still come home with a possession limit for the rest of the fall.
September 25, 2012 at 3:38 pm #123862Yeah, I will ask next time I see Warden Bob!!! Yeah how could they count? IDK??
September 25, 2012 at 3:40 pm #123864That is a valid point… That happens with us also. Even around home, wind, temp and calendar is right so we take a few days and pile em up. If you ask around I bet you will be surprised how many will take em…..

I couldn’t agree more. You kill it you grill it.
If you don’t like to eat duck, goose, deer or whatever shoot it with a camera instead of a gun.I do at least one big 4-5 day trip every year and on good years we are eating duck/goose til it feels like we’re gonna start growing feathers in order keep after them.
September 28, 2012 at 2:16 am #124009If the ‘carcass’ is being stored by you, (freezer or whatever), it is held against your possession limit.
If it has been processed, (made into jerky, roasts, sausage, ect.) it is NOT counted against your possession.
Easier example: Fish fillets ARE carcasses and count as part of your possession, ground fish patty’s are not>
Does this help any?
