Nice work Jer! I am also looking forward to seeing how every one did. The goose addiction had me in a field this morning, post up later when I get out of the tree stand.

I haven’t field hunted yet, had to make some sacrifices to get prepared for the 60 day season. Have the itch tho, real bad!!! Yeah it sure is fun fun to look at everyones pics and hear their story. Any story, any pics, many birds or a couple!!!!

It is low, but most boats seamed to navigate ok. All week there were fishing boats with as big as 50 Horses throughout the backwaters.

A buddy of mine and I took a trip to his place up in Crookston for the opener. Hunted hard sat and sun mornings with a limit of mallards on sat with two teal. Sunday was not as busy unfortunately, and we only killed three mallards. On saturday for something to do we tried for some grouse and ended up with my first woodcock! Had a great time playing in the woods and water!

Nice! I haven’t killed Grouse in years. Love em tho, especially on the grill!!! Sounds like you did well yesterday on ducks! I had to work the Bait shop in Alma this am. Buddies used my rig and killed 9. Which was good, but the birds disappeared by the afternoon. We killed 2 this evening and saw very few… We ended with 35 for the weekend, but after 75 boats yesterday pressure just blew the birds out.

I live in LaCrosse, and I went North for opener. I don’t like the pressure and the skybusting that I see down here. I managed a limit Saturday. Lots of woodies and a few teal. Only saw three flocks of mallards. Lots of geese coming down. I did have another hunter on the same water, but he was a few hundred yards away and was selective about his shots. A very relaxing weekend. Plucked a woodie and roasted on the fire for lunch. Went grouse hunting in the afternoon. Got into a few. Only shot at one. I ate that one for supper.

My good friend Terry and his 70+y/o dad and I had one of our best openers. Hunted “Winona” Mississippi River area. It was also our coldest opener any one of us could remember!

Also stayed away from the crowds for opener. Got on a field friday night that was pulling most the birds from a local refuge (around 250 birds). Local pass shooting jumped the whole works at once and ended up with an awesome show. Around 250 birds in many different flocks, small groups, pairs, and singles piling in on us at once. Birds dropping tails and sinking out of the sky, high birds maple leafing, and low flying groups setting and taking off. We sat and watched (while waiting for that infamous ‘perfect flock’). Birds were so confused by being spooked off the refuge that they started filtering back towards the lake. We shot 3 out of one of the last groups into the spread. Bit later called in another small bunch traveling from a different lake towards the refuge. All in all 6 geese and 2 bonus woodies had us eating breakfast by 8:30, can’t complain.
