I just bought the GHG Dog blind…the bigger of their two. (17″) tall. It is too short for my tall lab. even when he tries to crawl in, his back hits the top and the whole blind lifts up when he tries to scoot in…….Anybody use the avery finisher blind????? I stayed away from that one because of all the negative comments on the fiberglass rods breaking at the hubs. Anybody know if this is fixed, or have any personal experience with it?

What about other brands? I need a taller one, for an 85 lb lab. Thanks for any info!

    Do you really need one??
I have field hunted with several different people that just have the dog lay next to their layout blind and it hasn’t made a difference as long as the dog stays still. Even a black lab in a cut alfalfa field didn’t bother the birds.

You could also trying laying some camo over him to help conceal him.

I thought about that….wanted to eliminate an “excuse” when the birds flared! But no blind may be better.

my labs lay next to my blind. put a couple of decoys close to break up their outline and you will be fine

I can’t say GHG goofed, more like the “reviews” I read by customers. I think I could get my dog to make it work….he would have to “army crawl” to get in though, without making the whole blind move!

Please have the wife video tape you “training” him as you crawl in and out of it as an example.

On a more helpful note, maybe send Joel Nelson a PM. His brother does a lot of guiding down in the Rochester area. He might have a good product to review.

Just thought of another guy who field hunts a lot. PM Jake from White Rock Decoys. I’m sure he has a very informed opinion to share.

that is pretty normal for a taller dog. it shouldn’t matter how they fit standing up in the blind, as the dog should be laying down in it anyways.

if you start getting too tall with the blind, it will stand out in the field, regardless of how well you grass it.

I have that blind and hate it. You cant hide it, it stands way to high. The nice thing is that when the birds are working they just dont seem to care. My dog lifts it off the ground when he gets in, but when he is down it is fine. He is 60lb and not that tall. I wish I would have purchased the “hut”, the round one. It sits much lower, but it is even smaller. This thing just sticks out to me.

Thanks for the replies guys. Went out opening weekend and just had the dog lay next to me. Only had one flock near us, but they decoyed in great. Could have clubbed em with the gun! Thanks again!
