My brother is in the market for a new shotgun and since I’m on the computer a lot more than him, I volunteered to do some research for him. He would like a 12 ga., semi-auto,at least 3in. shells, full synthetic, and full camo. This gun will be used in the field out of a ground blind and hunting on water. He would like to spend less than 1500 bucks.
    Thanks for any input

I’m a Benelli fan, but Winchester’s SX3 is also a very nice gun and a few less dollars.

The most important thing when buying a shot gun is fit. They are all very good when you are talking $1500 shotguns.

I while back I bought a new gun, I went to the store with the plan to get a Benelli SBE2 and walked out with a Beretta Extrema2. I spent 30 minutes going back and forth between the guns pulling them up and the Beretta just came up “on” more consistently for me. I really noticed it after about 20 minutes of going back and forth when my arms started getting a little tired, the Benelli came up nice but didn’t come up right on and the Beretta did.

So I went with the Beretta and have been absolutely thrilled with it.

Tell him to handle as many as he can….close his eyes and shoulder them over and over and see what comes up best the most consistently….that will be the right choice for him.

Great advice, but keep in mind some guns (like the Benelli SBE) come with shims for cast and drop… Which can be great equalizers if the gun doesn’t fit quite right at the store (with the wrong cast/drop shims). Very easy to change out.
