man oh man, this is some big time ducky weather we’ve been having the last couple days. cold temps, North winds, and even some rain showers. the ducks should be everywhere……

but guess what…they’re not. all the reports i’ve heard from this weekend sounded pretty bleak. no large concentration of birds anywhere in the state, not to mention anywhere in SE MN.

i hunted the river bottoms this evening inspite of the bad reports. what i found was what everyone else has been saying. great ducky weather, but no ducks. i took a few shots at some passing mallards, but other then that, no birds in the air. not even any high flyers. very, very dissapointing .

so where are all these birds at. it’s gotta be getting dern cold up there in canada, potholes must be startin to freeze. the “big push” should be on its way sooner or later. hopefully sooner rather than later

I was driving around this weekend and say good numbers of ducks in the Albertville and Monticello areas. I also say a lot of geese near Willmar. I go to school at the UofM and today was the first day in about a month that there weren’t 200 or so geese scattered in the river and park. I think they are on the move so watch out down river.

I was out this morning. Seemed to be some new flights of gadwall and widgeon around, but the mallards are very few and far between. The refuge on Lake Onalaska is holding alot of puddlers, but they don’t leave the refuge.

I heard Duluth got like 4 inches of snow today. I would imagine mallards have to be on the move soon.

i hunted for a few hours again this evening. it seemed that there were a few more ducks in the area. at least there was a bit more shooting taking place.

i was only seein singles and doubles though. and really not any thing to get excited over. i took one shot at a lone greenhead that flew by. not even any high flyin flocks headin south. maybe they were there but i just didn’t see them through all the starlings .

    anytime now, i’m waaaaaaaiiiiiitttttting

hunted for 4 hours again tonight. some dern ducky weather again, but still not much to doing . i had two different flocks of 4&5 mallards cirlce and land just out of range, and a single green head land behind me that i snuck up on a took a crack at(and missed). other than that, nothing happening. a lot less shootin than last night, but i did see a few small flocks of ducks headin south. something i haven’t seen in the last few trips out.

    …..maybe tomorrow
