Is the river locked up for the most part or is there possibility for a duck hunt this weekend? Have been heading home the whole semester to duck/bow hunt and am trying to give the last weekend a go. Are there still any birds left in the LaX area? Don’t plan on hunting up here, but just want to know where the greenies are at!

It’s a river. good luck. Was out Monday and my sposts we locked up inn 2+ inches of ice, and ice jams a good foot out of the water. Went out last night for the final duck of the MN season, and all my spots were open. the rivers are ever changing, but with the cooler weather I think they are about to start locking up pretty good. Oh well dropped the hammer on the honkers!

Good luck if you are able to get out.

I think unless you have some little honey holes that stay open and you know where to whack em, your best chances are going to be as close to Illinois as possible. Alot that was open the last two days was froze this morning with the mid teens and the wind laying down last night. Some of the main current flows will likely stay open, but getting to them is going to be the issue.

One of my guys at work is going to try it down on P11 tomorrow… The guy he’s going with got 20 last Sunday, mix of cans, redheads, ‘lards & goldeneye. He was able to put down 10 Tuesday and was checking ice this a.m. for tomorrow. He has two potential hunts this weekend, didn’t know if they were going to cancel or ice would force him to cancel them.

I don’t know if I will get a chance for Sunday or not… Really don’t care about myself, but would be nice to get the 1 YO lab back out a second time this season. Otherwise , its looking for geese time and they might not be here real long either!!!

When I was home for Thanksgiving break last weekend, there was some ice starting build up on the padstems and some chunks of ice floating down the river on P11. I know of a spot or two that should still be open this weekend, but the only problem is finding a landing that will let me get there. . I will be home tomorrow afternoon and will be checking things out for this coming weekend.

Was on the main channel of pool 6 in a canoe today (not hunting). Lots of LARGE ice chunks coming down. It’s gonna be awfully tight by Saturday.

I talked to a buddy this afternoon that was out hunting and said that most of the landings are still accessible even though are some thinner sheets of ice on them. Hopefully the ducks are stuck between here and there until that storm starts blowing through this weekend. . I’ll be driving down the river tomorrow and will see what’s still hanging around.
