I have generally found rain to be worse than sun for duck hunting. Snow on the other hand, excellent, but in 20 years I haven’t ever really noticed rain having much of a positive effect on a hunt, and in fact more often negative, especially a rain with light to calm wind. Plus, it just gets old sitting in the rain.
went and jumped a few holes last night that were LOADED with woodies last weekend that were pretty empty last night. Not sure if they just moved location or moved out completely but it was certainly down in numbers.

Understand your point Moss things could be difficult for the South Goose area tomorrow morning, Heading out in a hour to scout a few spots with a buddy but with a 60% chance of precip. tonight ehhh ain’t looking the greatest… Tomorrow then waking up to a S to SE wind at 11 mph isn’t bad but the T-storms possible or light rain isn’t going to work well with the wind. If it isn’t pouring out buddy and I will still probably hit up the waters and stay dry within the blinds on the boat… What’s your call on the whole situation?
October 23, 2010 at 12:36 am #89754heading out in the a.m. rain or no rain, gonna kill some ducks!! There’s some pintails about and I need one for the wall
October 23, 2010 at 12:40 am #89755What’s duck hunting without rain? Ur not duck hunting if ur not wet cold or hungry. Good luck boys. Post pics tomorrow!
October 23, 2010 at 8:07 pm #89796Got out today, mid morning. Had birds flying right away, but stayed a little far out. Then the geese started to fly, left the dekes at home, wouldn’t ya know. I have a wedding to go to, but bros’s are still out, we did manage 3 ducks and 2 geese before I left. good luck hunting—John
October 24, 2010 at 12:37 am #89812John,
those dam geese were shootable today too, we kept getting them turn but they would just skim our outer perimeter and kept just outside of shooting range. Thought today would’ve been better than it was…We ended up with 6 mallards and a gadwall.
My stuff is still drying out.
October 24, 2010 at 2:33 am #89803Hey slop, ya it was wet. Going again tomorrow, my brother and his son are here from Texas. Shoooting isn’t real bad, but sure wish it could be a little better. Always fun to hunt with family, but with his boy just starting, sure would like to get him a few more shots. Anyway he has to learn it is not always just set up and fire away. maybe see ya on the marsh–John
October 24, 2010 at 3:57 am #89826Well, 5 totAl shots fired this morning. No dead ducks but one soaking of a rain. Had ducks flying like crazy till the rain started. Wouldn’t ya know it, I go to work at4 and my brother goes out for an afternoon hunt to the exact spot we were in in the morning. He ends up shooting 2 teal and a hen mallard. Something to look forward to in the morning I guess. Good luck to anyone goin out tomorrow!
October 25, 2010 at 1:48 am #89878Saturday morning started with deeper water than we thought, floating deks…and lightening/thunder rolled in. We deployed and pulled all decoys in 30 minutes. We don’t play with lightening.
Today: A good soaking rain. Hardly anything moving, ducks rafted in the middle of lakes.
See what moves in next after more rain the next couple days.
