Whats everyone think about a nice little push coming through early next week ? Someone made a nice observation awhile ago that several days of south or east winds the birds arent moving, but when a north or Nw wind comes in be ready. Makes sense to me,but what does everyone think ?

the mallards usually wait untill they absolutly have to move, or the conditons are right. with it freezing hard, they look to ride a n or nw wind down, instead of fighting a s or different direction wind to fly south. it should finally be getting good now!

Unfortunately we’re getting to a point in the season were it doesn’t really matter……Either something happens next week or it doesn’t…….Either way, the end is near! Which sucks.

I haven’t been out for over two weeks now, and don’t feel like I’ve missed a thing around here.

55 deg, sunny, and no wind again for Saturday……We’re going to Redwing fishing!

I thinking the same as you Jake. 55 tomorrow and sunny I think I might have to hook up the boat. Good thing I didn’t winterize it yet. I can’t even remember the last time I went fishing in Late Novemeber because there were no ducks around (probably never).

The weather definatly screwed waterfowl season up this year. Even with the season going later than normal we still have a poor season.

I wouldn’t say the whole season was poor…..just the last two weeks.

Personally, this year is going to be one of my best bird per hunt averages. Our WORST hunt was 6 birds! The rest have all been 8+

I’ve always tried to scout more, hunt less….but especially this year, if I haven’t got something lined up that I know is going to be good, I just haven’t gone. I haven’t gotten in the high number of hunts I usually do, but success % has been better…..and have cut the 0-3 bird hunts completely out of the rotation.

SE MN days are numbered, but Northern MN should get birds rolling through next week…..and WI southern zone stays open until Dec 6……so there’s still a chance to end with a BANG!

as of now, from tuesday on, there is a chance of a good hunt. the other thing that you need to remember with this time of the year, is when it starts to make ice on all of the city ponds, it pushes the birds to the bigger water, which can mean some great hunts on local birds with the influx of birds on open water.

i would love to see a few days in a row with highs in the 30’s and NW winds at 15-20mph. but i just don’t think we are going to get it…

From NOAA: “Wednesday: Snow likely. Cloudy, with a high near 36. Breezy, with a northwest wind 9 to 12 mph increasing to between 18 and 21 mph. Winds could gust as high as 29 mph.”

It’s not a string of days but I’ll take it.

Might make for a good outing Turkey day morning!!
I am going to have to see if I can sneak out for a few hours before family obligations.

Thursday and Friday look like the best bets to me. Tomorrow afternoon may be good depending on your location.

Hoping the weather cooperates! Heading out Thursday morning and most of the weekend. Sounds like there are a ton of birds near Fargo/Moorhead right now. They just need a good push south!

On my way down in an hour all the way to P9!!! Can’t wait, was a little disappointed as I was trying to take my 81 year old father on his maiden voyage, but he is having back problems so here’s hoping for next year for him. Now start blowing from da north!!! I’ll be there by 5 p.m. for tomorrow a.m. and maybe even a little bit on Thurs!!!

You’re heading down at the right time Mark. Certainly haven’t missed anything great here since October. Are you bringing Greg along this year as well?

Nope, headed to green bay fri-sun. Will see what happens if I am heading that way for closer or back to the bay. Been a hit or miss oct. for me too. Had a couple of good diver hunts but mallards seemed to leave early this year.

I’ll be hunting north of the Morris area tomorrow. I’ll give a heads up if there is any movement. Tomorrow should give a good indication if there will be any new birds for the weekend.

I do see some favourable weather for Sunday from NOAA. A little more snow and cooler temps. Might be a last-ditch blowout for MN duck hunting.
