Where did the time go?
My boy grew up right in front of me this week-end.
The waders and warm clothes, building the blinds, tromping the swamp and muck and watching birds
With only a few minutes of shooting time left Sat. evening a set of drake woodies came in low and hot. Cam pulled up and literally dusted his first bird with one shot. Dad was so amazed that I proceeded to miss my bird ,emptied my gun in fact Max saw it all go down and had Cams drake pinned down before it even ruffled the swamp grass.
We did have another group swing in right after so redemption was made with one falling to my new Stoeger auto.
Sunday am. we woke up to 19 degrees. This I felt would be a perfect test for the lad, see how much moxy was built in if you know what I mean. Cam, didn’t flinch. Warm gear and hot chocolate made for a nice hunt. One more woodie fell that morning with a lot of new birds sighted after being escorted into the area with the early cold blast.
The woodie population looks to be in great shape. Now we just have to wait for those big, orange footed green heads to show up, Cam hasn’t seen anything until he witnesses a big flock of mallards that are locked in and ready to land on a spread. Bring on the northern flight and say good by to the walleye reports this year…….life just went in a different direction and man, I forgot how much fun that is
