FIELD HUNT

well call me crazy (the wife does) but went out goose hunting in the fields yesterday. the morning started off with high winds and clear skys, not much flying but you could see the front coming and you could tell it was snow coming (the clouds just look differant then rain clouds) well about 10:30 or 11 it started and boy did the birds start flying, buy no meens was it an easy hunt even with the number of birds willing to decoy (it’s not easy for them with 30+ mph winds) but we did manage to shoot a good number of geese (5 guys 7 geese) what was an added suprise was the number of mallards we saw and they were willing to cooperate as well (8 mallards) we saw birds all day long.
this front has definitly pushed some new birds in to the area.
it’s been my expierance that after these big front the first couple of nice days (low wind, high sky) are some of the best time to hit the swamp after some ducks and the best shooting is usually from 10 to 2 (no need to get up early) so if any of you duck hunters can get out tuesday or wednesday i recomend it.
sorry no pix, it was tough enough just trying to hunt.

I noticed the same thing about the number of mallards. I seen more groups of mallards Sunday morning than I ever have while hunting the Mississippi. Flyin’ super high and werent decoying very well though. Oh well!
