Hey Luke…I just picked up a few of these at Gander myself… Might just be the new “secret” weapon

Dang……I was hoping to keep that secret to myself. Custom Jigs and Spins make fantastic panfish tackle.

Just what I need, more ice jigs.

the diamond jig was my “go to” jig and it still is, i used the gill pill for the first time last saturday and I had a bad hook up ratio, but then I used the diamond jig and i got mostly every fish that hit, but i know that the ‘gill pill will have a great day, but it won’t take the diamond jigs place.

Hmmm.. Justin- is it possible you had a dull hook on the gill pill? I have found that their jigs come with some of the sharpest out of the box hooks on the market…

What I really like about the pill, and the stand-by diamond jig is the super-sharp hook, and how they are set at a 45 degree angle for excellent hook-ups. I rarely miss a fish on these jigs.

This is the description from the website

“The ‘Gill Pill is a tiny, yet heavy ice jig with a half moon profile. It has a flat bottom for added fluttering action and an ultra-sharp hook at a 45 degree angle for excellent hooking power.”

Without safe ice in the area, all I can do is look at new lures, and dream about safe ice…getting very frustrating here in Iowa.

that could be it Luke, I am still going to give the gill pill another chance I have a lot of faith in that little thing, i just have to give it another chance, but another thing i have to note is a lot of the fish i was catching were really small gills so that also could have been the problem

yeah I was there..and it was my rod/gill pill that he was using and they were tiny gills indeed to be honest we haven’t found any good biters yet so it is tough to say. but I don’t think anything can distract from the wonders of the diamond jig.. I hope to put them both to some hard use on the weekend. Saturday= deep water crappies..Sunday= shallow gills

You bet! In my opinion- the diamond jig fishes a lot “heavier” than the marmooska. You don’t have to sacrifice size for weight- meaning when downsizing, the diamond jig still fishes like a heavier jig, allowing you to “feel” the jig on the end of the line.

Give one a try- you will love them!

Luke-Your post just convinced me to give these “Diamond” jigs a shot. When things get tough later in the season, I like to use the Mamooskas a lot. But, like you mentioned, they are so light and can be tough to use in any real depths. If these Gill Pill’s and Diamond jigs have the same action, but with a little weight, they have to be a great jig

Cade or Blue-Did you guys buy these locally? If so, where?

    Thanks Cade
I will be in that area this afternoon so I better stop and check them out. I also was just checking online and they have some great looking colors
To be honest, I have never even heard of either of these jigs until this thread. Then after looking at their website, they really do have some great looking ice tackle

Luke, have tried them on a fast-snap? Sometimes those little gems really help the action.

    Well don’t then…..

While you’re at it, don’t use an over hand knot leaving a big loop so the jig is allowed extra movement. I would never recommend that.

No she’s not into simplistic things like tying knots. She’s been teaching me how to use my Marcum products.

This was the knot I was referring to.

Aside from Go Devils, Frostee Jigging spoons and the jigging demon, the diamonds are all I use if I want to size down and use bait. Plastic waork well with them too if it is small enough.

Those Marmooskas will twist the heck out of line even with a conservative jigging action where the diamonds will not. Being quite close in design, those Pills should give up similar success. That 45 degree hanging angle, I think, will really help to stick the light biters.

Luke of Jeff- I am thinking of picking some of these up. In your opinion, what is the best overall size to get?

John- 14’s and 12’s-are what I usually use. It really just depends on the forage in your area. Try and match the size of the forage.

Spinning baits- kill pan-fishing. I hate it when baits spin- the marmooska is the king of the twirlers…

I use the #10 up here and would use a #8 if they made them. But up here our gills are not pressured so we can get way with larger jigs.
