Benelli Nova is a very good gun and it wont set you back all too much…Ive had mine for 8 or 9 years now and pump a lot of shells through it with no problems or parts replacement…good luck..Jay

you can also look at a stoeger, I am running a stoeger with the marsh max advantage 4 shadow grass patern on it, it takes up to 3.5″ and it is pretty light for $300.00

870 synthetic pump. shoot with it, turn it over and use it as a paddle and shoot again. things are the rhino rod of the gun world in my opinion.

Honestly I would say that if you think you are going to stick with bird hunting, go all out early. I have been hunting for 12yrs now, and have been through many shotguns. I finally got a used Benelli SBE1 last year and it has been amazing. I wish that I would have bought one when i first started hunting and then I could have save hundreds of dollars in other shotguns that just didn’t quite do everything that I wanted.
A used SBE 1 synthetic should run around $800.00. I know it sounds like a lot of cash, but if you figure on spending $300.00 to $450.00 this year and then upgrading later on you might as well just bite the bullet now. I have found that if you go to smaller gun shops that have a good client base you often run into good consignment deals. These guns are often nearly new that the owner bought then traded in a few months later for a different firearm. I know of a lot of older guys who rotate guns as often as their toilet paper rolls.
Still this is just an opinion and only worth while if you plan on staying with it. If you buy quality today, you’ll have quality to pass down some day.

I just got a new Browning BPS 12 gauge on my b-day nick. Two weeks after i was luckey enough to take it back to south dakota over christmas break. I LOVE IT!!! it ejects out the bottom which is good for me seeing im a lefty shooter. It has a camo stock for duck hunting also. It was at a pretty reasanable price also

You can’t go wrong with the 870. The same 870 20 gauge was the first for myself and my brother. Eventually you can move up and it would be terrible to have more that one gun though!

If I didn’t love my BPS so much I would have gone with Stoeger

870 is inexpensive to start with and may be a good option. You can even use it to dig your vehicle out of a snow bank while pheasant hunting! Like what was mentioned before you may end up spending more in the long run if you buy 1 or 2 guns before getting the one you really want. Also you have to do what you can afford.

Here’s another post for the Nova. I’m on 6 or 7 years with no issues and love the gun. I run 2+ cases a year through it. The gun just keeps kicking.

I’m in total agreement. It’s got to be the best bang for the buck. I’m on my 4th year with my Nova without even a hint of failure. And I launch tons of steel and lead through it all year round.
