My buddy shot a banded mallard on Pool 7 that was 8 or 9 years old (I’ll have to ask him) that was banded in Manitoba. I have no idea how long they live.

On Wis. 2nd opener this year a guy on our group shot a widgeon that was banded 9 yrs ago, oldest widgeon I’ve ever heard of, the band had one number completely worn off. It was his 2nd OLDEST, his oldest is a Can that was banded 10 yrs ago and was older than that becasue it was an adult when banded.

Very cool story. I shot a hen wood duck in 2004 that was 6 years old and i couldnt believe the age of it. I wonder what the average age really is for ducks?

You can always tell a passionate and legitimate waterfowler when a Bird Band means so much as to lock it away in a safe deposit box for his future generations.

This guy is the real-deal duck hunter. What topped it off was when he said he wished his son had shot it.
