I just watched Tred Barta shoot a drake mallard with a long bow in flight after 6 yrs of trying and 100’s of homemade arrows launched. And to cap it all off–IT was a banded drake Amazing
    Way to stick with it—wow!!!!

Saw that last year it was something to see! That guy is one dedicated person!

Have you seen his Grizzly hunt with is wood recurve and wood arrows?

He sticks one after like 7 or 9 years of hunting one. I cant even begin to think how that would feel!!

Last year, I seen him Muley hunting with his son, with his recurve and homemade arrows. He must have blown about 30 stalks, missed about 10 shots, then finally got a doe, as it was jumping from its bed. That looked like some tough hunting.

yeah he took alot of high risk shots with his stick bow in that episode. I have little respect for this guy, although the grizzly hunt was awesome. His is pretty arrogant most of the time.

I think that is the best hunting show there is. I have the same thoughts and lorals he has. I too hunt with a long bow and cedar arrows so I am kind of partial.

About the same as every one of his hunting episodes. I have little time for him. I get sick of him nearly breaking his arm while patting himself on the back about how great a sportsman he is.

Showing a ton of missed shots and then a clean kill is unrealistic. What don’t get shown are the inevitable numerous poor hits and wounded animals that occur whenever somebody is flinging arrows willy nilly. A clean kill following many, many terrible misses is not sportsmanship – but instead is a urine-poor example to show young kids. Deer and other big game deserve more respect than that.

Isn’t he the one that hunted wild pigs with dogs and a knife? He is a one crazy guy! I’m not sure about the wounded animals but I know he is a pretty good shot when he practices with his bow! If you hunt long enough everyone is bound to have some bad luck with archery equipment! But lets not take away from the post of him taking a bird with his bow…pretty impressive!

Dartman – fair enough. The bird accomplishment is awesome.

I stand by my statement regarding big game, though. We preach ethical hunts, high probability shots, and clean kills. Yes, mistakes happen, but when you see a guy flinging arrows and missing many, many animals by a long ways, then suddenly hitting one in the vitals, it tells me there is a very, very good chance they edited out some of the wounded critters.

We as adults can watch it for the entertainment, but there are far too many impressionable youths watching it that think he is cool. To my way of thinking, it is an irresponsible thing to put on TV – and does absolutley nothing beneficial for our sport.

If somebody on this site posted that they shot 2 dozen arrows at running deer and then finally killed one, they would be pounced upon instantly by many people here. It would be a thread that would turn sour right away – and I see no reason at all that Tred Barta should be any different. He strikes me as an irresponsible jerk-off.

This is a real interesting post and great timing. I just saw that when my son pointed it out the other night. I said many of the same comments as Timmy to my son. I take Tred for what he is and try to ignore the self promotion crap. I appreciate that it looks like he works at his sport. But my first thought when hitting the duck was “Big frickin deal. Sooner or later you are going to hit one.” From what I have seen I think he is a great shot but hitting a duck in flight? Even if he hit it on the first one I would think that it was a lucky shot……let’s see it again. I would have been more impressed if they called the ducks in and let them land and he hit one at 40 yards on his first attempt……and then backed it up by doin’ it again.

So what you’re saying Timmy and jrrendler is that you don’t like him? Fair enough! The title of the post did leave it open for anyones opinion on him! I do agree on the “flinging” of arrows! He could be more “ethical” when it comes to that aspect of his hunting.

Believe it or not I like the guy and will sit to watch his show some times. I look for the positive and leave it at that. He isn’t perfect and neither am I…..but I do think some of it is just goofy. With most of these shows you have to take what you want.

This is off the subject but lately, my son and I are questioning a lot of what we see on these shows with the African hunts. Time after time we see the brave hunter and his guide move into position for the big shot….WHILE THE ANIMAL IS WATCHING THEM MOVE…..and then they shoot the great beast down. I am sorry, I don’t see the hard part….other than paying the big dollars to get there. You want hard….try to move when a North American White Tail is looking at you and see if you get a shot. Just my opinion from my very brief hunting experiences…..I hope that is not offensive to anyone.

Although I’ve never hunted Africa, I think the hard part is that the hunter can easily become the hunted at times! I too have seen some hunts where it looks “easy” to shoot your game. But I’ve also seen some footage where it becomes life and death for the guide and the hunter! It all depends on what you’re hunting…African game animals are totally different than North American game animals.

I remember that episode and If you guys who’ve seen it remember it or see it again really look at the shot he takes, he is clearly shooting for a bird in the front of the flock and a bird way in the back takes the fall, blind luck. I’m about 50-50 when it comes to that guy, some of the things he says/does are moral, while others are just plain ignorant.

Now I must go and shoot a bison with a slingshot I made out of bamboo and rocks I have sharpened into broadheads.

    I can’t argue with that!

Hey, look……it’s 11pm and Tred is on! He just go done bragging about how he built his truck the old fashion way….it runs on testosterone….not Viagra! No kidding….he said that. I think I will head to bed…..I will be muzzler hunting with my son before the storm in the morning.

Well, really he will have the gun and I am his guide which means I carry most of the stuff, ground blind, other things.

Long ago when I worked for an archery manufacturer, I personally talked with Tred Barta he was and is ptetty “out there”. I also find it hard to believe with his tactics that there isn’t alot of editing going on. But if anyone believes that the hunts that you watch on tv are anyhting like the hunts that most of us have you are mostly mistaken ( canned, edited, baited ect.). Tred is a very rich man, and can aford to spend alot of time and money hunting. I will say that Tred had a very good statement when he said something to the effect “a trofy isn’t always about the rack or size of the game but about the hunt/ experience.

ive personally never heard of him but hearing that he shot a drake mallard witha bow really makes me interested in finding out more about him. also just the fact that he was able to shoot a bird with a bow when the birds fly really fast makes the guy sound really talented. have to check him out.
