In between bow hunting and fishing, I was able to make a quick trip up to Saskatchewan (Simpson area). The duck hunting was very good and we limited out each morning picking out only green heads so we could make the morning last a little longer. The goose hunting could have been a little better. However, we did manage to shoot a variety of geese including blacks, snows and speckles. All of our set ups were on fields.
The day before we had to leave we found out there was a bird flu breakout and that they were not allowing hunters to bring back any waterfowl into the U.S. We were actually debating on whether or not we should even go. We decided that we would donate the birds to the locals. As we entered Canada, they announced that they were now letting birds back in again! Good thing we brought our coolers!
All in all it was a pretty good trip and plans are being arranged to do it again next year! We also saw a couple of good muley bucks and even a antelope buck along the way.
Good luck out there and be safe!
