I first and formost wanted to start out by saying thanks to Jason and Mandy for hosting us to an exceptional BBQ. Lars made Jalapeno/ cream cheese stuffed duck. John and Heidi made Salmon. I made marinaded goose and Trevor cooked burgers. Jason and Mandy had chips and dip all set along with cold beer and pop. Thanks again for being great hosts!
Saturday morning stater out with clearing skys The wind was coming up nicely out of the NW at around 15-15. With the sun rising and shooting time coming near, everyone got ready for a great day in the field. We had around 24 doz Bigfoots out, a dozen field Mallard decoys and a couple of Robo’s. We did have a couple flocks of ducks in the area of us, but just would not commit. However we did have one hen Woodie come flying threw and quickly got her.
The birds started flying shortly after first light. Our first small bunch of two or three birds came right in on the deck. We came up and downed them quickly. A short time later, a few more and we hammered them.
We were working numerous birds all at one time and had a single almost land on Lars! The bird ended up not landing and started to spook and we took him out! After that the sun was shining and there were not many birds that wanted to cooperate. We had a flock of Lessor’s that gave us a chance and we shot three out of that flock.
The next flock to come in was right after the Lessor’s. We ended up shooting 4 big birds out of that flock and that was it for the day.
So off to Brothers Sports Bar we went for Bloody Marys and lunch.
All and all it was a great day. It was really nice to get together with everyone and have some . The hunting was good for what we had to work with (sun).
As Trevor had stated in another post. We will do anoth hunt later in Nov. We will try to pick a date soon so people can make arrangements. Until then, good hunting eveyone and thanks for a great time!
