Anyone have any info on these. Here is there website

    http://www.reelwings.com/store/

I heard about them through a buddy and he swears by them. I guess they fly like a kite spinning in the wind giving the affect that ducks are landing and swinging your spread. Since they are wind powered I would assume that there is not a legality issue with the DNR???

    Any info would be cool!

    Thanks

I was just looking at them on friday. I don’t see why they wouldn’t be legal in MN.

Ya I have spent way more on other stuff. I think it would work. Not sure how to set up for hunting over water???

I do not have any fields that I can hunt so I am hoping I can get them to work over water. I am going to try to put a big weight on them, toss them out to see what happens.

I absolutely believe in them. They look great in the air. I usually put up three of them, as long as there is wind.
We will be filming a show this fall using them.

Can you use them over water? I know the ad says to use them behind your spread??? I am slow but I still cant see the point of that.

how many come in a pack when you buy them?

I looked at Cabelas and they are $29.99 but it does not list how many come in a pack. Then it goes on to say that you need to use 2 Duck decoys and a Snow Goose.

I think I will just try the Duck decoy.

Unless Mr Loos wants to take me out to show me how they work

From thier web site “It is made from virtually indestructible proprietary materials and will NOT break when it hits the ground. It is designed for years of hunts! Reel Wings Decoys are truly “The Deadliest Decoys on the planet!” “

What about when I accidently shoot one will it break then?

These things are a p.o.s. Unless you have the exact wind they wont fly. They are not indestructable.

He tried kicking some buddies of mine out of fields that were not his, claiming that they were. Nobody I know uses them or supports this guy!

As far as the ad saying you need this and that, of course he’s going to say that so you buy more of his stuff!

Agree with Flicker. The wind has to be at a certain speed or nothing. They look o.k. AT BEST and their effectivness is about a 2 or 3 on a scale of 20. I wouldn’t reccommend them, but if you decide to try them out don’t bend them at all or they will not work unless you get the rod fixed or whatever breaks on them because they are not very durable as well. We used them snow goose hunting and we(the wind whatever) ended up breaking a couple because you have to be careful with them. Unless they get shot because they aren’t working, but that’s a different story….

I was at Cabelas the other night and held them in my hand. Not to impressed with the Reel Wing Decoy. Good idea. But the product did not seem worth the money. I passed and bought a Foiles Strait Meat instead!!!!!!!!!!

Thought I’d throw an after the season review up on these guys.

My buddy bought a reel wing duck decoy mid season and we tried it out in the marsh 4 times (never in a field).

I wouldn’t call them completely 100% worthless…..but maybe more like 98% worthless…..the only true worth we got out of it was the intial entertainment value of watching the boats that would drive by stare and point when it was up

The other guys are right on when they say you need the PERFECT SUSTAINED wind to keep it in the air for more than 20-30seconds at a time……Not sure what that wind is, because we never found it, and we only took it out on what we would call “Windy” days.

We did have ONE green head ONE day come down and lock up, and hover over the reel wing…..only problem was when the damn thing is flying 25yds up…..the duck was hovering at around 30yds…and we missed the shot…….where as a duck that stupid would probably have ended up hovering over our robo at 10yds if we didn’t have the reel wing up

Ultimately, it was a good idea……and I always say, just like any other waterfowl gadget…..there is a time and place for everything….the only problem with the reel wing is that the time and place is probably going to be the garbage can on pick up day.

I guess the effectiveness of the real wing kind of depends on what you are hunting. We use these in SD during the spring snow goose conservation hunt and they can be very effective. When hunting snows, they tend to hold up and hover over your decoys, almost tornadoing down on your spread, the real wing movement gets them to almost concentrate on the decoy and not you, as they are hovering down, also supplying movement. If anyone has ever hunted snows, they know that the more movement in your spread, the more enticing it is. With that said, you need alot of wind to really get these going, which can be a problem. Snows are smart, so any advantage we can get, we usually try doing!

The only problem I see using them for spring snows is they look NOTHING like a snow goose hovering over a spread……snows have almost zero wing beats as they glide into a spread…..they set their wings and glide from side to side and work their way down. Where as how the reel wing spins it looks like fast wing beats and its dancing all over the place…..it actually looks A LOT like a duck, but very little like a snow goose.

Now does that really matter to a snow goose?….heck if I know

I’ve seen them flying out over spreads in the spring and they do look good from the road.

Oooohhhhhh…..I just got a chill thinking about it……is it March yet???
