My uncle and I were able to meet up with Fisher Dave and Peirbridge this weekend for a little duck hunting action. We got lucky and were able to hunt a new location that had way better bird numbers. However I have never seen so many cormorants in my life! WOW. I have never seen anything like that. Flock after flock with at least 100 to 200 birds!

Any who the day started slow with everyone but our spread getting any shooting. It did pick up with a nice hen mallard decoying nicely for us. Had a pair of HUGE honkers swing us. I think it was Fisher Dave who dropped the first one. Folded that honker right up and dropped him in the bull rush behind us. Good old Rocky made one hell of a retrive dragging that big old honker out of the thick stuff! The other honker swung low around my uncle and I a 3 1/2″ BB folded that one dropping him in the water, man they make a big splash! Never have I seen 2 jumbo’s get folded so hard and drop from the sky with no follow up needed .

Finished the day with a couple drake widgeons and missing a bunch of brids

Best hunt of the year shared with a coulpe of good guys.

Thanks Fisher Dave and Pierbrige had a blast. Anytime you guys want to head north (Not that you would want to )

    I will make room!!

As crazy as the morning started.. it turned out to be a good time out there! Lots of high flying ducks passing through that wanted nothing to do with anyones decoys. The day started off so dark we had several ducks sneak their way through without being shot at… and I can quite figure out why Pier, colk, and myself all just stared the the Canvasback flying 10′ above the decoys and not shooting?

I must say the pair of geese dropped didnt have a chance hovering above my head saying “shoot me” as I pulled the trigger on the 1st goose(folded immediately) and realigned on the 2nd goose and pulled the trigger again and the it fell out of the sky… I learned a minute later that another person shot the same time I did(we were 30′ apart). They were 2 very big greaters, and really made my day seeing them fall after the early morning – pre-hunting episode of blowing out my trailer bearings on the way, and getting a later than desired start(still made it hunting on time )

For a mid season hunt, I was impressed with the number of birds we seen overall, although not that many in the decoys. If the shooting would have been on the mark, we would have had more birds in the boat… but everyone was having one of those days.

It was fun regardless after my 45 minutes of sleep before the trip and the break-down! I hope to be back out there tomorrow or one day soon.

I had a great time out there… Its just a reminder to me to keep your head high when everything seems to be going wrong, because in due time, things will get better! Problems go away quickly as the 1st shots are fired in the early morning hours .

Sounds like a good time. Just the kind of story I needed to read after my weekend.
