I hate double posting the same imformation BUT this is really important.

I heard that some parts of Canada has stopped all transportation of dead waterfowl from crossing the border into the US.
Avian flu was found on a chicken ranch in Saskatewan Canada.

I will try to find more information about this story.
This is going to be a huge ordeal if you are planning a waterfowl hunt in Canada.

    Very true!!
I crossed the ND-US/Manitoba border at 9:30 AM today. If you are hunting in Sask. and bringing birds back from there, you’ll be required to throw them away in the trash right at the border.
We hunted in Manitoba, so bringing birds back from there was not an issue (yet). I’m sure that will all change within a week or so though. We were allowed to keep ours.
……SO, Yes. If you are currently headed into Sask. to hunt birds, you might want to reconsider.

Sounds like they realized how stupid of a request this was an opened the boarder back up. The paper today said in a nut shell They don’t stop a couple hundered birds a day from flying over to stopping the ones that hitch a ride is pointless. ( not to mention you literally just throw peoples money away when you make them do that.)

I am glad to hear that they finally made the right decision.
I did not like reading about the youngster that saved his lawn mowing money all year to have his first snow goose thrown into the trash can.
His father was going to mount it for him.
I am sure that it was a snap decision but when a percent of wild waterfowl carry the avian flu anyways whats the point. There is no way this disease is going to stop at any border.

Here is the article about the bird flu in Canada.

FYI….Bird flu is quite common. In fact, there have been several outbreaks in Canada over the past 10-15 years.

Fortunately, this was not the H5N1 strain of the virus. H5N1 is the strain everyone is really concerned about.
