Why 2 cans???

Does anyone else get confused as to why there is a 2 can limit this year, for the entire year?? I don’t see how they can go from shooting one for, what 35 days, to shooting 2 all year. If the whole reason for limiting the number and period of time for shooting them is decline in numbers then why not say one can all year and then 2 cans next year? Don’t get me wrong I like shooting them and they taste great but I think they are jumping the gun here a little bit. Especially when they say their numbers were at a serious decline like, what 6 years ago, I just think they are going too far too early.

I don’t get why it isn’t 2 drake cans? Cans are polygamous like mallards aren’t they?

I would guess it has something to do with the overall population… I am sure they have done the proper research and determined cans can now handle some harvest.

I know I have been seeing a ton of cans the last few years when I hardly seen any 10 years ago.

The way the Bluebills are coming around I wouldnt be the least bit srprised to see those limits go up before long too… and mllards drop if they dont start coming back around(where did they go?)

what i do not understand is why not leave the limit at 1 and let them build up a decent population. at elast cap the 1 million mark. let them comtinue to rise and continue to breed untill their numbers are even higher.

I don,t like it they should have left it at one.Alot more hunters will target the divers which will result in more bluebills and cans being harvested.I hope this was not a polictical favor.Like extending the season down south a couple years back even though the wildlife service advised agaist it

The hunter harvest factors very little in the population. Even if we had a closed season….the numbers could plumment next year if conditions are poor.

Why not kill them and allows hunters to enjoy it and eat them rather then letting them die from predators, disease etc.

I’ll bet the duck guides that target cans (and sell a lot of Nov. hunts) pushed for that legislation. I don’t mind 2 cans. All year doesn’t really make a dif to me either, they don’t typically show up till the 2nd half of season anyway.

Yes, bluebill bag limits should be decreased again…not increased.

The two can limit shouldnt have any drastic effect on the birds population. If people are worried about canvasback numbers we should focus on how we can create better and more productive breeding habitiat since in the end thats where youre going to make or break the population. This isnt like the old days of commercial hunting and punt guns. Just because a few hunters will get lucky and be able to shoot a couple extra cans doesnt mean theyre going to dissapear any time soon.
