Ultimate waterfowl trip???

So here I am…..Middle of July, watching duck hunting on OLN and DREEEAAAAMING

and I got to thinking….which would I rather do…..Mallards in the flooded timber in AR…..or Geese and brown ducks in prairie Canada???

I think I’d choose Canada over AR…..but I’m SURE I will be doing both someday (sooner rather than later? Canada’s on the list for next year )

Not sure what my ULTIMATE waterfowl hunt would be though?

Maybe Sea ducks in Alaska? It almost looks like Mexico/South America would be too easy and too commercial/packaged . I think Snow’s in Canada in the spring would be sweet (I heard they get stuuuuuppid).

    What do you guys think?

Gawwd, is it Duck season yet???

Hunting in the logs in Arkansas does sound like a ‘ell of a good time. How about the pintails in western Mexico???? That looks like a blast.

I gotta say though, my ultimate hunt has got to be sitting right out in one of my regular spots with my buddies that I have hunted with since I have hunted. Breakfast in the boat and BSing with good buddies is hard to beat.

I think the midwest is just fine for me too. If you can’t find a dream hunt in Minnesota, Wisconsin, or North Dakota you are not looking hard enough. I think the others would be fun, like Arkansas mallards in timber. But for now I think I will stick with old faithful “Upper Midwest”. If is so fun finding that pothole in North Dakota with hundreds of birds in it or a freshly harvested field with a bunch of mallards or snow’s and blues. Lenny put it best though, sometimes it does not matter where you are hunting, it is who you are with.

We run to Canada almost every other year. Well worth the trip. However! I want to squeez the opening round of the NorthAmerican Season in Alaska! There are a few trips that actually run you out into no mans land! While there you camp and have the ability to shoot upland birds or fish after the morning hunt is complete. Thats my kind of deal!

I’ll put my vote in for green heads in the flooded timber of AR.

Having said that, I imagine there are folks that hunt the back water of the Miss in a similar fashion.

I also have a curiosity of doing a big water hunt on skiffs on Lake Superior or Michigan. I’ve heard of these hunts on Chequamegon Bay or Milwaukee Bay.

I’m heading to AR this fall to shoot mallard. Can’t wait for that trip. Less of a hassel heading south than it is north. But if I hear banjos I’m outta there and headin north.

Well, thanks to Jake I am checking the Waterfowl posts daily
    It is only mid July
I love waterfowling as much as the rest of you guys, but I’m lossing my focus already, in anticipation of October
chriss, this is my list of things to do in the not too distant future:
1.Sea Ducks from a sculling boat in the Prince William Sound, Aleutian Islands and Kodiak Island areas of Alaska.
    2. Divers and Sea Ducks from a sculling boat in the northern coastal bays along the Atlantic coast.
    3. Big bad Greenheads and Geese from a slough in NW Saskatchewan

After the actual hunt is over, all of the above are followed first by a desolate excursion with a fly rod and then an adult beverage and a good cigar overlooking the landscape that I final got to visit!
I thought these post were supposed to be therapy for the off-season
Now, I’m just jonesin’ for the smell of powder.
    Good luck
    cheers

Lots of places I would like to hammer birds, but its gonna be hard to top the oldest daughter squeezin’ off the benelli 20 on the youth hunt this year for her first hunt with a gun in hand—-I can’t wait to share the hunt with her

A high volume duck hunt outside of North America would be what i’d do.

Anything else would be just another day…

It would either have to be the trip to Argentina as stated earlier or a trip to Saskatchewan in late October. Been to North Dakota a few times in late October and it was a great hunt as well.
