So what does everyone use for boat blinds???? Here is our homemade custom blinds we build. We is my buddy and I. We have built 4 so far and they work very well and block the wind out and actually are lighter than what you think. The frame is made out of 16ga. one inch steel square tubing. It is all welded together. The plywood is 1/4 on the sides which is treated with thompson water seal and then painted to allow it to last longer. It is attached with self taping screws. The grass is avery real grass which is attached with tip ties along with some marsh grass I cut out of the ditches. All in all it took us 12 hours to build one blind. We have a total of 200 bucks in material in it. When i put the tops on the blind which are just plywood pieces cut I can keep it 70 degrees plus in the blind which is nice for when you get out on the marsh at midnight and crawl into the sleeping bag. It makes life alot better. Here are some pics of the blind.

Here is a side shot of the blind while set up opening day on our hometime river.

We would probably get a room together when on a hunting or fishing trip! We have spent alot of time together pursuing game!

Like them alot, especially on a cold, windy day!!!! They travel nicely down the road and are very durable.

Works great. I can pull down the road 65 to 75 mph and never have anything blow out on the inside or out. Super warm as well. Put a heater in there and watch out you are sweating to death.

Mitchell county is so much better than howard or chickasaw, although you guys have some good looking hunting ground over that way. What year you guys graduate?

I graduated in waverly. There is alot better hunting in Howard county for everything than Mitchell. Trust me we have hunted both.

    Nice Blind!

Here’s mine, a 18′ Beavertail flip-over on an 18′ Alaskan. I hang marsh grass on it also though I didn’t this particular morning.

I much prefer hunting out of hard-sided blinds for hard-core hunts but I really do like mine so far. It’s easy to shoot in, easy to transport, and easy to take off. I wanted one because that way I can either lay the blind over or take it off and fish all winter with it.

It heats up surprisingly well also plus is wind-proof.

Another consideration for me was the big winds we get. Our average wind is about 19 MPH in October and nearly that in November. On the Missouri River in the marshes it can be very difficult to drive a boat through some of the 8-10′ chutes with a boat blind getting blown around much less getting home safe in a blizzard.

I did a lot of resarch before getting the blind I got and do like it. But if it was strictly a hunting boat I’d sure want a framed blind.
