I stopped at Kirwin and Cedar Bluffs, KS over the weekend. I would say Cedar Bluffs has about 2,000 dark geese, 100 specs and maybe 5,000 ducks roughly.
I saw a flock of geese – about 25 at the protected area on the north side of Cedar Blufs – that ALL had green and white neck collars. I didn’t have a camera and they weren’t there when I went back. UNBELIEVABLE!!!! I saw a ton of other neck collared geese too. 80% of them are staying on the refuge to feed.
There were still signs up at Kirwin for the whooping cranes. We stopped at noon and saw maybe 4-5,000 dark geese and a similar number of snows. Hard to say though because we saw a small percentage of the water.
Not much flying along the Platte River in Nebraska Wed or Friday afternoons.
