That is very cool. I have a band all the way from Delaware. It is amazing how far these birds move.

i just shot my third band of the year today ill let you know where it came from. i got one nov 1st that i got back about a week ago. banded by bill schultze (same guy that banded my dads mallard about 4 years ago that we shot in north dakota) at tacoma park south dakota, hen mallard banded 9 01 05 and hatched in 04 or eariler. the band i got today started with 1667 and was a drake mallard. the suzie had the band number 1757 so im hoping the drake is an older bird? part of the fun of shooting bands is finding out where the come from. the other band i shot this year was a goose on opening day of the early season. it came about 5 miles from where it was banded by winona. i shot one last year that was from bemidji mn

Odd to me a duck would come east from Penns. Aren’t mallards thought to return to their area of birth? I wonder what brought him this far west.

Aren’t they usually banded in summer on the breeding grounds?

other possibility is that it paired up with a hen last spring and followed it to her breeding grounds?
