I shot a really nice Drake GWT this morning, and am almost positive that I’d like to mount it. Several Questions…

    a. Any recommendations for taxidermists in the Metro area?

    B. What are your overall feelings on GWT mounts? Like/Dislike, etc?

    c. What pose do you think works best?

    Appreciate all input.

    hey nubbin,

shoot calklink83 a pm, ask him his price for his work. he does nice work and I would bet that he would be able to tell you what the going rate is for other people.

    Here’s my brother’s GWT.

I like them standing as well.

This one was done by Jack Hanson in Coon Rapids. Highly recommended in my book!

Thanks for all the photos and input. I really like the pic that Chriss put out there.

BTW – Shane, there is no record of that person on IDA. Give me a call on my cell late this PM… thanks.

    Again, thanks!

I don’t like sitting ducks mounts myself, but that’s more of a personal preference……I’d do it flying/banking hard like those little teal so often do (not necessarily cupped like a mallard would be).

One other piece of advise, spend the extra money and bring your duck to a quality taxidermist……make sure to go see his work….don’t just bring it to a friend of a friend……cause a bad duck mount looks, well, BAD!!!

For me it depends on the bird, Wooodies are MUCH nicer standing as you get a better look at those beautiful flank feathers, I also like GWT better standing, but widgeon, blacks, mallards, divers, pintail, I think I like all those birds better on the wing.

I also have had good luck at “cheaper” places with flying mounts, but the two standing mounts I had done there looked like crap. Are flying mounts easier?

as a person who does them as a hobby, flyers are WAY easier to do. sitting ducks require more time to properly do all of the feathers and to get the wings where they should be and covered up by the feathers that cover those. it takes alot more time and is alot harder, believe me.
