Delta, PHJV, DU

I’ve been in DU most of my life, one of my friends is a DU VP. But today, I joined Delta too, probably should of long ago but never had. I applaud them for taking the stand they did here.
It’s a little ways down the thread in Green. Essentially they are holding the PHJV accountable for the $650 million spent. There have been many opinion pieces written – Tony Dean, Dennis Anderson, etc.

Essentially, other than declining duck populations, what do we have to show for the $650 million dollars?

One thing that is interesting – I’m NOT bashing DU, is that Delta looks at predation and habitat where DU focuses only on habitat.

The more I’ve read this fall, the more I was inclined to believe I should be in DU and Delta. Delta has just never had much presence in Nebraska. Delta

    Delta vs. PHJV

I think accoutability for this money is a good thing and we’ll see what comes from this action. I’m not versed enough to know the answer to how this should play out.

What I am concerned about is the focus on predators and the elimination of predators from duck production areas. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction and I wish we’d quit trying to outfox the natural order of things.

I’m not sure what the elimination of skunks, racoons, and other varmints will cause, but they’ve lived in harmonious balance for centuries. I relate this to introducing silver carp into the Mississippi, and now look at what they are doing. Or these damn chinese beetles that look like ladybugs, I heard they were introduced to offset something or other.

I hate to see divisiveness amongst groups trying to accomplish the successful future of waterfowl, I hope the accountability comes to light, but I hate to see conservationists choosing an organization on the basis of whether they oppose skunks or not!
