I gotta share this because it was really cool.
I took the Heidi(Walleye-brat) on her first layout blind goose hunts Sat and Sun. We only got 4 between the 2 days but we had a good time.
Sat morning we are hanging out and 3 big honks are cutting across out in front of us so I give a short burst on the call and the 3rd goose breaks off and locks up from about 150-200 yards out. This bird was totally committed and just dropping right in on us. Heidi is only shooting a 20 ga so I figure….let him get CLOSE!!! So with a little cluck here and there to keep the bird comin this thing drops right in on Heidi, at about 25 yards I say take him figuring by the time she is up and ready it will be closer to 18-20 yrds. She pops up the bird doesn’t even flinch, she fires….feather fly but the bird stays up, she continues to hammer away but to no avail.
I am up and ready and hit the bird with the first shot…still nothing….now wondering if they have issued kevlar for the honkers this year I fire #2….not exactly sure where that shot was going…I was pondering the kevlar thing….so I regain my focus and take a little time and shot #3 from the Xtrema with the 3.5″ mag BBs finds its mark and quells the kevlar idea.

Anyways….Heidi pops up to her feet all fired up about how awesome it was and the look on her face was absolutley priceless, it was really cool to see how excited she got….and I could be wrong…but I think she is hooked on the field hunting.

We had 3 honkers cooperate on Sun….and none of them were wearing kevlar either.

Really fun weekend with the Brat….Gopher hockey on FSN Fri night, Goose hunting Sat and Sun then Gopher Hockey at Mariucci Sun night.
