Isn’t the Mississippi river in Wisconsin “closed” to ducks and geese right now???

I know the “Exterior Zone” is open to geese Sep. 16 to Dec.-16, but the Mississippi River Subzone opens Sep. 30th with the duck season and runs with duck season with the exception that it stays open until Dec.-15th.

We were out watching ducks in the Nelson bottoms on Sunday morning, saw a couple flocks of geese dump in above the power lines by the dike road, and sure enough Bang, Bang, Bang. Definately a shotgun, and definately in the area that the geese just went out of site over the trees with thier wings cupped.

    Am I missing something??

Anyone out fishing Big Lake Sunday hear any shooting?

Were these geese going into the eradication zone… With the low water maybe the marsh isn’t a marsh?

With that being said, was there a youth hunt for WI? Don’t know, just a thought

No Lazy, it was a bay just to the north of Indaian Slough. If you come down Indian Slough, take a left just after those 4 rock piles and head into the woods. Right where that bay opens up in the woods is where the geese were landing, and where the shooting came from.

Youth waterfowl was Sep. 16-17. I haven’t heard anything about an “eradicaion” zone in this area?? Over water on public land isn’t usually the case for that is it??

There used to be an early goose season for the Miss Subzone, but I couldn’t find it on the online regulation book
there is always a youth season “over water” on public lands for that

10-4, Youth season was Sep. 16-17. Missississpi River Subzone goose season runs same as the duck season per the rule book. I am just wondering if I am overlooking something. Trying not to believe we have violators in the area.

Amwatson, I was talking about the “Over Water” on public land for the eradication, not the youth waterfowl hunt. I know that is allowed for sure.

I kinda ran the two together, didn’t mean to make it sound like that.
