    NEW report.

Headed up towards anoka and the river last night. The mallards were every where. I even saw a pair of snows!

This should be a great weekend!

Spent some time on the water sat am. (Before my pup had a incedent. See hunting dog reports. ) There are plenty of birds to be had in the early am. We still need some hard water to get things moving later in the day.

Spent the AM west of maple lake and saw plenty of divers and Mallards. Shot 3 green heads and a goose. No pictures do to paniced hunting dog owner. (ME)

While most of you are in a tree this weekend I will be taking advantage of the cold weather and snow in the Dakotas this week. As happens every year this looks to be the weekend! Should be icy with a few new birds many locked up on what water that is still open.

Anyone else staying out of a tree and heading for the water?

    Just a quick report.
I’m having a problem juggling work and hunting and posting
Last week we hit the divers up north and I willing be heading back tomorrow before deer hunting the weekend.
I do have photos to post when I get back
Big water means big rafts of divers right now
Everyone has been seeing them, but they are now migrating in earnest, as of yesterday (10-31-06)
    Good luck to everyone
    cheers

I was out this morning hunting Anoka County and the northern birds are on thier way.

Saw and killed some nice buffleheads and blue bills.

With the potholes freezeing overnight and thawing during the day

TIME TO PUT OUT THE BILLS AND CANS………………..

Spent Wed. and Thur. 35 mile sw of Alex. Boy are the birds in town. Most birds are spending there days in the fields. With the ocasional stop for water.

There are very few crops left in this area. And most fields are being tilled as we speak. Now is the time to get out there. When the fields are all turned and the little water thats left is gone. The birds will quickly move further south.

The 2 day bag was mixed, Mallards, red heads, divers and a perfect Can! (I saw a TON of cans this week. Should have a picture on monday.)

Good luck to all of those not hunting deer this weekend. Looks like the peak flite is upon us! Shoot straight and have fun.

Well the mallards are here if your willing to look.

This week should make things tough if your not prepared. New open water will spread the birds around so do your home work.

There are plenty of birds around Montrose, Buffalo, and Rockford.

    Good luck to all.

    Justa quick post.
The divers up north have been fantastic
    Leech, Winnie, Cass, Gull….
Every place that we have gone we have had good shooting, but the ice last week made things tough.
My deer hunting is over, so I will be back up north on the big waters chasing divers this weekend.
I am hoping to have an easier time finding open boat landings to get into though
Chriss, we will soon discus the local stuff
I plan to bring my rig home after this weekend and finish off the season hunting local.
Good luck to everyone, things are burnin’ hot right now
    cheers

I agree there were lots of birds just west of there last weekend.. 90% of them were swarming like a big tornado for hours over someones field by annandale.. I am not going to get more area specific than that.

decent numbers of birds everywhere right now. it sems to be a steady flow of migrant ducks and geese, with a few local geese still here giving us a hard time.

I saw what you saw! My whole family lives in Annandale. Maybe we’ll cross paths this weekend.

Lay the down. This is the time of year we all work for!

    Quicky report….

Last week with the wind we did Well to Execlent!!! Lots of bird moving down the river Wednesday and Thursday……The wind kept them off the big water and into our (and everyone else’s) dekes.

This weekend I was deer hunting, but reports from the marsh were down right poor…..sunny skies and no wind, birds are here but never moved out of the closed areas .

Did a quick hunt this morning…..got beat to MY spot……ended up having the slowest shoot of the year……5 shots and only 2 mallards .

Colder weather expected for the end of the week, should start things up again for the rest of the season!!!
