Sorry guys I’ve been out of town. Spent some time with the mutt chasing Roosters yesterday. I was impressed with the numbers of divers already hanging this far south. Montrose had 3 rafts of 50 or more. Annandale to rockford had a bout the same. There wasn;t much in the way of big ducks. But they could have been in the fields.

I am heading to Alex in the morning. There will be a full report on monday. Have a good weekend and take smart shots.

    Chriss,
I drove through your area the other day and I thought the ponds and holes were full of ducks. I thought maybe you were hiding it from us.
Should be a good weekend finally. I’m sick of good hunting weather during the weekend and sunshine on the weekends. That’s just wrong I tell ya.

Not hiding anything. I was out mid day hunting Pheasants and didn’t stick around to see what came out of the fields.

We were up in the Alex area over the weekend. Sat we saw and shot alot of divers. (Primarily Blue Bills and Ring Bills.) For whatever reason we weren’t seeing the number of big ducks I was hoping for.

Then Sunday came around. I don’t know if they came in over night or if they had been in the fields on Sat. But sunday was a Mallard shoot. There were tons of ducks! We saw a number of huge Mally flocks. (100+) I wish we could have gotten one of them to Decoy.

On the way out we drove past Christina. The divers were every where. (Including a HUGE raft of Cans.) I may need to make a mid week run SOON.

It was sure nice to have some actual duck hunting weather this weekend. I was thinking we were going to hunt under blue skies all year.

How did everyone else do? BTW wheres Drake?

Noticing alot more mallards here on pool 8. Ducks are more plentiful this year, in my opinion. I am sure it has to do with the weather. Got out Sunday for 2 hours and managed to get 2 greenheads. So far this year the hunting has beenvery good. Not shooting a limit every time, but seem to always have some shots and ducks flying around to keep ya interested. My lab Jessie has not lost a duck this year so far. I always feel if I can get one duck for my dog to retrieve, it has been a very good hunt. Hpoefully the end of the month will see it.s usual push of birds down, making for a great November. Good luck hunting to all.–John

got back from Nodak yesterday…Hunted west of Devils lake .

the cool weather was really moving ducks and geese around and into the area as of Sunday…..saw lots of snows migrating Saturday…..Divers EVERYWHERE……most of the little water was frozen over by Sunday morning with highs Friday-Sunday not getting above freezing…..supposed to get upper 40’s again this week so I would imagine things will open up a little.

Hunting was Okay/good……had an excelent mallard shoot the last afternoon to save the trip from averageness……3 man limit of greenheads in less than 2 hours….that was FUN!!!!

one greenie band for the trip and my first ever 4 curly mallard

Great trip…..now it’s back to killin river ducks…..I’ve heard it’s been good

    OK MM….

I finally saw what you were talking about. Scouted on the way home last night. Boy do we have some BIG ducks. Almost every decent size water I went past was loaded. The area I scouted reaced from Plymouth to Montrose, up to buffalo and back in to Rockford!

Didn’t notice any divers because I was too excited about the Green Heads! Looks like I am picking the wrong weekend to head SW for a day of Roosters and ducks. From the looks of it there will be some great shooting localy!

OH…. Did I mention all the Geese? Whats the deal with them this year? I haven’t seen this many geese around EVER. Not where I hunt any way.

From the weather reports we may need to go hard this weekend. Things are supposed to get cold next week. I expect to be breaking some serious Ice while the boys are in Deer stands next week.

My wife has been heading up to the Delano area for work and even she has commented on the amount of ducks staged up there. Unfortunately for me, I am heading to Watertown this weekend to visit some good friends. No duck’in this weekend for me which hurts, but it’ll be a good time anyway. Hopefully you guys can lay the hammer down. This time of year is when the season really begins.

    Good luck.
